New puppy Hi, :aimeeyork Can anyone help me? I have just got a new yorkie puppy. I also have a adult yorkie, his name is jakey and he'll be 10 in march. My puppy is called timmy and he's 12 week's. They are getting on fine now. I am so proud of jakey he has accepted him really well. My problem is with timmy and training him. I'm at my wit's end, but i love him so much, i love them both. Timmy does not seem to be responding to anything. He has ripped the wallpaper of the wall in the lounge, chewed the skirting board and chewed the carpet in the lounge. He does his business where ever he feel's and i'm so tired of cleaning it up. I've done as all the books say and stood outside with him after feeding time but he just won't do anything, as soon as we come back in the house he goes to the toilet inside the house. All the chewing in the house i know he'll grow out of and i do think he's understanding when i tell him it's naughty, but to be honest it's the house training that's such a problem. I'm scared he'll never learn. When i got him 5 weeks ago he was paper trained, but he won't even do it on paper now, he rip's the paper up. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice, anything that will help timmy and myself. Thanks guy's, i'll try put some photo's of him on here, but be patient i'm new lol. Thanks again xxx :confused: |
First of all, congratulations on little Timmy! ;) :D How wonderful that he gets on with Jakey! That's one MASSIVE hurdle successfully avoided! I know just how frustrating and heart breaking training a new puppy can be, but dont lose heart, he'll get it eventually. Just keep up what you're doing. As for the other issue, well I think that'll be easier ( and quicker) to solve. How much exercise does he get? The chewing and ripping wallpaper sound slike boredom to me. I'd suggest you take him out for as long a stomp as you can give him! Tire him out and he wont have the energy or the will to be destructive. That's my take on it anyway. :p He's also probably just started teething so get him some chews and some toys of his own that he can rip into. Make sure they're dog toys/chews though and not any household/personal items you've discarded as that'll only teach him to destroy your home. I hope you get some of his behaviour sorted out soon hon, I can feel your desperation in your writing. Good luck and let us know how you get on, k? ;) :) Jess :heart to |
hello awww thanks jess, your reply was great to read and it all made sense you know. I can't take him out at the moment because he need's his second injection, but he's going for it in a few day's then i'm told a week after that he can go out. then i have all the fun of teaching him to walk on a lead, but i really am so looking forward to that and jakey is going to help. I couldn't get him in at the vet's any earlier because of christmas and new year etc. I play with them at home all the time though, but i'm tired before them lol. But the comment you made on boredom yes i think you could be right, it's one of them things you don't realise until someone mentions it you know. He has lot's of toy's and does play with them, but it seems he prefers the carpet and wallpaper when there's no one home or when were asleep at night, but as you say i think that's boredom.
