Put your thinking caps on - Dog #2 I've decided that I want another dog. I came across an adorable male biewer puppy that is available to come home with me. Currently I only have my Yorkie Howie, who turns three in March. Here's my only obstacle: my boyfriend. He doesn't mind Howie and I always catch him playing with him and petting him but he has been pretty adamant that he does NOT want another dog. I, on the other hand, think another dog would be good for us. As is Howie is very attached to me. Follows me around, has to be touching me at all times if I'm sitting down, weasels his way in between the BF and I in bed at night, etc. I think another dog would be a good companion for him and would alleviate some of the clinginess. Another angle I think I could work is the good old biological clock. We agreed on not having a baby until I'm 30 (which is six years away) but that clock ticks loudly! Having dogs to care for would help with that. Does that sound totally ridiculous? I plan on bringing up the dog #2 conversation with the BF this weekend. I need my YT friends to help me come up with some really solid reasons for another dog!! |
Oh dear...you're only 24 and your biological clock is nagging you? lol Sorry, that just made me giggle because suddenly I am feeling very olld. :p I don't have any advice, but what you said about companionship makes does make sense. Good luck with your decision. |

Now that I've had multiple dogs, I'll always have more than one. I feel a lot better when I have to leave them at home. It's always really great seeing them interact. :) They love playing and sleeping with each other. |
My biological clock started to tick at age 24 too. Good thing my bf (now dh) was into having kids, because literally within 2 weeks of that clock tickin'...I got pregnant. I have to be honest, part of the reason I got Missy was because there is no longer a baby in the house. My youngest is 3 and likes to be "a big girl". I needed something to baby, so I got Missy (my tubes are tied). I think a second dog sounds like a great idea for you. It should get you through the next 6 yrs of waiting to have children. It's always nice to have 2 dogs in the house anyways. They keep each other company. Good luck with your chat this weekend. I hope you end up with the Biewer, they are just too darn cute. |
Good luck. We hope to hear a positive result by Monday. LOL |
I got my first little one, Samson, because I was going through empty nest, my yongest daugher is 20 and oldest is 25. We are getting our second yorkie, Harley, next weekend. I think getting another one for the reasons you stated makes sense as that is pretty much why we are getting another one. I feel my little boy needs a paymate and companion, he is ALWAYS by my side (my little shadow), and I was use to having 3 kids around the house. It was hard to convience my DH to get the first one, it was way easier to talk him into the 2nd one, he has totally fallen in love with Samson and I think he likes the dog more than me sometimes ;). Good luck on your discussion! |

getting a sister for Avie, was the BEST thing we could have done! ;) they love each other so so much! |
Oh boy, my youngest is 24 and he's planning on getting married next spring(2010) and has already told fiance, as much as he wants kids, they're waiting 2-3 years after marriage to pay off all their bills first. He does have 2 yorkies, they had the boy yorkie and I had the sister and they begged me for mine so their boy would have someone to help to keep him from getting so lonely. |

Me too!! Good luck with your talk. Do let us know how you make out. |
I'd tell him if he didn't let you, that you were going to put him on Craigslist to find him a new home. LOL |

Just tell how happy you would be after you got a new Puppy ! Give him a choice , either a human baby or a puppy , LOL :D |
Update Unfortunately the talk didn't go well. :( He seems very adamant against another dog but I don't see the issue because we already have one dog to schedule our time around. He says that two dogs will be "like hell". His mom is a bit of an irresponsible dog owner and always had a couple in the house growing up so maybe that's where he's getting this from. We are moving in together in June so technically the decision is partly his. I got Howie right before we started dating so he didn't have to give me the OK to get him. I'm going to have to come up with a way to get him to let me have a puppy! A birthday present from my mother, perhaps. He couldn't say no to that, right?! Sigh.. this is all so ridiculous! Most of the things he dislikes about having one dog would be fixed by having two! |
