Yorkie is 3 and marks everything!!! My yorkie is 3 years old and he actually weighs about 12 pounds (not a tiny one!!). We have never had him neutered but are now highly considering it for the fact that he is destroying our house. He pees on everything and it smells so bad. I'm embarrased to even have company! My question is though, have we waited too long to have it done? Will it even help with him marking EVERYTHING?? I just can't take it anymore but just getting rid of my baby is just NOT an option! So I need another resort and hoping this would help!! Thanks! |
That is to bad your yorkie is doing this......At his age there is no guarantee it will help or not.....You could get him belly bands for when he's in the house........ I have three males, I had one neutered at 1 1/2 years old. He cocked that little leg of his every time he was within shooting distance of anything and everything. I swear that gun of his was never empty!...I had him neutered and he stopped.......Neutering might be best......Good luck with him! |
He has probably finally reached full sexual maturity which is why is is marking so much now. Has he been marking for years or has he just started? Definitely get him neutered. It may or may not help, but it is certainly worth trying. I know of people who have great luck breaking marking habits in males who were neutered late by tying them to their waist so they could retrain them. |
My Sugar was almost 2 when he was neutered. He was a little marking maniac but stopped overnight after neutering. It's probably your best shot- if it doesn't work then belly bands will be your best option. |
Thank you for the replies! But what are belly bands?? I don't guess I've ever heard of that??? |
They are re-enforced fabric belt thingies that you velcro around their peepers. When they mark it goes in the belly band like a diaper. You can line it with a pad or pantyliner and just change that out. I'll go find one and link you. |
Here ya go Belly Bands Lots of people here make them for sale. |

I would probably tell you to just have him neutered. My mini dachshund was doing the same thing, and i kept telling my parents that he needs to get fixed, he was about 2.5 yrs old when they finally did this, and it has stopped, and he has been great! good luck! |
Molly was spayed when she was 2 1/2 and she was fine. she used to wee everywhere when she was in heat, but all that stopped after spaying. |
Belly bands are a God send! Wouldn't live without them!:D |
Very few males stop marking after neutering. If they aren't neutered before sexual maturity it becomes a habit but it's worth a try. I wear a belly band on one of mine who couldn't be neutered until 15 months because of other health problems. I use poise pads in his belly band and chenge them every 4 hours or so depending on if he goes outside or not |
I would have him neutered, and while he was getting done I'd use a good neutralizer wherever he's peed to get the smell out before he came home. If all else fails use the belly bands. |
I have the same problem. Mine is 5yrs old and the vet says neutering will not stop it. I use belly bands and poise pads. |
