Hello there, new here! I have a neutering question.
 

Hello there, new here! I have visited this site before & I think it's wonderful, so I decided to join. I currently am going to start grooming school in Feb...hope to open my own grooming shop (maybe w/boarding) in the near future. I have 3 yorkies: Mimi (2 years old), Momo (1 year old), Nana (12weeks old-Mimi's daughter). She'll be going to my aunt's permanently next month to fill her heart w/love. Her 14 yr old Pomeranian passed away...:cry:
I have a neutering question. Momo just got neutered this past Monday & he's been having diarrhea ever since. I've been to the vet today & she told me that it's probably from stress being in the hospital (he stayed overnight after neutering) & prescribed Metronidazole. He's also had a fecal Giardia/Elisa test & it came out neg. He eats well, is active (after the 1st day!) haven't fed him anything else besides his reg diet. I have been giving him rawhide sticks to chew on while I'm brushing him...the doc said to lay off those. Has anyone experienced this...diarrhea after neutering/operations? I'm just worried that it might be a blockage (not vomiting), he's had an operation to remove a palm tree seed that was blocking his small intestines & it was toxic so it gave him an ulcer too...he's been through so much! :2omg: He's my little love munchkin!

Canyon had diarrhea after his neuter - vet said it was from the anesthesia and the pain medicine, I stopped the pain medicine and kept him on a chicken and rice diet for two days and he went back to normal. Guess the anesthesia and the pain meds (if given) really upset their tummies.

Some dogs do get diarrhea from anesthesia, they just don't tolerate it well. Give him the metranidazole as directed. also you can give him some plain low fat yogurt to add good bacteria back into his system. rice is good at binding him up too. a small amount can be added to his regular diet. the diarrhea should go away soon. if it doesn't you should go back to the vet to get another type of medication to firm his stools back up.
