need advice about buying 10 mth yorkie I had thought I would wait and get one in the Summer when It would be better weather and get a baby. Well, Someone told me there was a 10mth little boy that needed a new home about 30 miles from where I live. I've called and talked to the lady, she is very kind. They take in foster children and just can't spend the time with him that she thinks he needs. She says he's is so friendly, potty trained to go on pads or out. My worry is this: Would he pine for the only family he's known or do you think he could be very happy with us? Just like a baby, I would die if I thought he was miserable and missing them. Any suggestions or comments?? Thanks, Connie Of course, I would go to see him first without making a commitment. |
Wow potty trained to go out or on pads he is a dream yorkie! I am sure he will aclimate to your family. It may take him a couple of weeks to adjust to the changes. good luck |
He's young so within a week or two I would think he will be just fine. He will have to learn to trust you first and lot's of little treats will get him there. What a dream come true. Pee pad trained and outdoors. Girl your lucky. I wouldn't hesitate if your looking for a healthy Yorkie. Make sure you get his health records. Good luck to you, |
Oh... how exciting!!! I think he will be thrilled to have someone doating on him more than he is getting now. He will be forever grateful to you. :) WAIT... CORRECTION NEEDED b/c afterall, this is a Yorkie we are talking about. He will be so happy knowing how forever grateful you are going to be for having him (ha ha ha!!!) :D |
My yorkie was 1.5 yrs old when I brought her home, she warmed up to me instantly and took a little more time with others but now you wouldn't even guess this is the same dog. She is amazing and so friendly and doesn't miss her old family at all! I say go for it if you are interested |
I say I would definitely go and check it out. The poor little guy will probably be very happy to "own himself a family." After all, we don't own them....they own us. I think he would adjust like everyone has said.....just give him a week or two. If the family he is with now hasn't had the time to give him....he will probably be overjoyed. |
I have gotten three yorkies that were over 7 months old, and have never had a problem with them adjusting. They love all the attention, and of course they miss their familiar surroundings, but should adjust very quickly. Good luck |
He's young, and if show show him lots of love and attention and he'll be fine. I got my first yorkie when he was three years old and it only took him about 2 weeks before he was running around like he had been here forever. Good luck. |
aww, he will be perfect in a few days, My Harry boy was 9 months when I got him and he is the only one that sleeps in my bed..:p he trained my hubby, AKA MR. NO PUPPIES in a week...now he is his BUD and they love each other to pieces..LOL , go see the little champ I doubt you will come home without him.. best of luck.. hugs, cArmen in nj |
Thanks to all. I will check him out. Now if I just like his looks:) |
Would I still be able to work on getting his ears to stand up? |
Yorkies are one of the rare breeds that actually do really well adjusting to new people and surrounding no matter what their age. I've had many fosters of all ages including the seniors, and never a one lost their appetite. ;) |

Thank you, I will. |
Do you have pictures already of this little one? Just wondering because you're asking about the ears, so figured maybe you have some. I'd love to see if you do! I think if you click well with this dog, you should bring him home. |

Remember at 10 months his coat will still be changing, and again if he has not had propper grooming he will look a bit ragged. But, that is only cosmetics . Look for his temperment, and see if he wil fit into your life that way . All dogs are different just like a human is from each other. :aimeeyork |
i say "go for it!" sounds like a very nice puppy :) of course he will miss his old family but which yorkie baby didn't miss their mommy and sibilings when we first brought them home? milu was so cute when we brought her home. you could tell that she misses her mommy and siblings. but also she liked us because we are very nice to her and splurged her with attention and love! and treats! lol it took her about 3 days i think to forget about her old family. lol hope you get the puppy, and don't forget to show us pix! :D |
Same situation I can tell you this I picked up my 10 month old male on the 20th only 3 days ago :pand he was living with a family with 2 parents and 4 children. In these last three day he has done incredibly! He follows me everywhere :Dand already knows when my husband gets home from work, and when the bus comes. He should be fine. All dogs are different but I would think a little extra attention would fix any homesickness. |

i mean, just put yourself in their situation you know? if someone took you to a different place and dropped you off there. even though i am sure you will miss your family and all the ppl you used to know. if the new people treated you like the way you treat your new puppy. with tons of love and attention and adoration! i am sure you would be a happy camper too! (especially if you were 10 month old as well :p or however old the equivalent is for humans:rolleyes:):D |
I'm going at 10:00 in the morning to meet him. I'm so excited and a little nervous:D Thanks for all your advice. |
