This is probably a silly question, but... I am wondering about getting Yorkies to be OK with clothes. My Foxy doesn't seem to mind so much, but my Maltese just hate their fleece jerseys! But winters here can be quite cold, especially since our houses usually have ceramic tile floors and no built-in heating. My babies are professionally groomed monthly and I have a wardrobe of fleeces for them (they spend most of their days outside and get really grubby sometimes), but you would swear they would rather freeze than wear those jerseys! These dogs were all rescues which I acquired as adults, so I have no idea what their early years were like. But Puddin' will be coming to us with no bad associations with clothes so we'd like to make sure she doesn't get any. It is summer here right now, so I have a little time before it becomes necessary for her to tolerate winter wear, but our floors are cold and she definitely will need to wear fleeces in winter like the others. Any suggestions, cautions, insights, warnings? I appreciate anything you can contribute! PS...I am a pretty fair seamstress if that makes any difference. :aimeeyorkPuddin's Mama:aimeeyork |
Molly seems to hate any clothes from the petstores, so i tried knitting her a coat for when its really cold, and she is fine with that. I think a knitted one is better for her because its soft and stretchy, so moves with her as she runs. Its a bit if a joke in our house, because i didnt knit any jumpers for my 3 children, but have made 4 jumpers for molly!! :D |
That's interesting...I don't knit but I do crochet...mebbe I can crochet her a jersey or two? |
What a silly question!:D Just kidding it's a good question. Most of them just get used to it if you stick with it. Gracie used to stand as still as a statue when I put a coat on her but she didn't even notice after a while. Be careful with knits because they can cause mats. I know some people use silk undershirts or slips to prevent that. |
Wow! What a great idea! And I just happen to have an old silk jacket that has a paint mark on one sleeve that I've been hanging on to because I wanted to salvage the fabric for something... Thanks!! |
