Yorkie Coat Colors.... Hello! I'm a newbie to YT and I'm thrilled to have found it. I have learned so much already but I do have questions on Yorkie coat colors. I know pups are born black and tan. Is there anyway to tell what color they will eventually grow in to? I had a yorkie that passed away this past June at the age of 13. She was black and tan her entire life. She never turned "lighter". I really liked that she stayed black. Is there a way to pick a pup with a tendency to stay black? All Yorkies are beautiful and I would love them no matter what. I'm just curious if there is a way to tell. I'm currently trying to find a new furbaby and would appreciate any tips you may have on picking a good puppy. My first baby, Sunny, was gotten by chance and she was perfect to me. I knew nothing about Yorkies when I got her but instantly fell in love. Reading here, I realize there is still so, so much to learn. Thanks in advance for your help! |

Welcome to YT. My first full yorkie is named Sunnie.. He is perfect to me also. The best way to tell what your new baby may look like is to look at the parents. My Sunnie had very light parents and even though he was born black and tan, he is as light as his mom was. My others had dark parents and they are dark as well |
Thanks for the reply, Sunnie! Love that name! :):):) I appreciate the tip on the color. I'm really excited about getting a new furbaby. NOTHING can replace my Sunny but I am looking forward to getting to know another baby. |
yes the best way to tell is looking at the parents. Cali my 3 1/2 year old is still all black and tan. Pixe my 3 year old has more silevr in her coat that just started coming in. Roxie is related to Pixie and is 15 months and just starting to get a little silver in her black. So I think she will end up like Pixie and their father/grandfather. My last Yorkie, Gracie was very silver and when I saw her mother she was almost white silver. So it definitely gives you a good idea if you can see both parents. |
