Why is this not safe for puppies?
 
I am hopefully getting my first yorkie puppy next month. I found this crate/carrier that I really like, but some of them say not recommended for puppies. This is what I want to keep her in at night while I'm sleeping, that would be just about the only time I would use it. Maybe during the day if I can't keep an eye on her. I'm not really to fond of the wire cages, they just seem wrong to me (JMO). I would really like to hear your opinions on this. Thanks!!:)

It is soft sided and has mesh in it - both a really bad idea for a puppy that can get a claw caught in the mesh and can chew the material - with what could be disasterous results - To crate train and for a bed you are much better off with a wire crate ( small size ) if it seems too open - drape a towel or blanket over it but you will keep your baby safe and have better results

If you are not sure how to do the crate/bed training please PM me and i will try to help you with the new addition - How exciting for you and i wish you the best and many happy years which you will have if you start it off and train early.

The carrier you are looking at is just that - a carrier for when you want to take it places etc - not a bed or training item.

I would not keep a puppy in that for the simple fact thar most puppies chew. After having surgery on one of my dogs who ate a peice of crate pad (several thousand dollars) I'd be very careful to use only things that can't be chewed up easily unless you can keep an eye on her. At night thar wouldn't be possible. A wire or plastic pet taxi type crate would be best but I think wire is the safest choice. Good luck with your baby

IDK for certain but my guess would be that puppies being the little "chewers" they are, could possibly chew this crate and may ingest some of the material?

The crate we used for Lexi was the plastic crate/carrier she came in (on the airplane). It was just the right size, and she enjoyed it - often going in it on her own during the day. Now, she has an ex-pen, but she still uses the crate - for hiding her flossies! :D

I agree with the others - the soft sides could easily be chewed. That would be good for just taking her somewhere.

There really isn't anything wrong with the wire crates. I know I've used them with all of my dogs and I know plenty of people have used them too. My dogs won't use anything BUT the wire crates because they like the openness and they don't feel as closed in I guess. The wire ones are good because you can keep and eye on them, if they make a mess you can easily take the tray out to clean, and they are collapsible with minimal effort.
