Roxy 87 | 01-21-2009 02:34 AM | Argh, I'm all depressed. Sorry I gotta just vent a little. This isn't about my girl Tila. Its about my old cat Simba. I got him for my 16th birthday. He was my sweet sixteen present from my parents. He's going to be 14 this year (yes, I know. I'm getting older. lol, thats all I want to laugh about). I took him to the vet last week because he had a scratch or something on his belly. I found out it was infected so he's on antibiotics for two weeks. But since he's been losing a lot of weight, he now weighs 12 pounds. but since his last vet visit he's lost 4 pounds! They asked me tons of questions and we decided to get blood tests done for his kidneys, liver, and diabetes. The vet was supposed to call me in a hour when the test was done, she got back to me later than a hour and the clinic was closed so I figured it wasn't anything seriously wrong. She did call me back at 7 that night, but I wasn't home and my cell is messed up, I got worried and called the next day to check. She told me it wasn't diabetes, and it wasn't his kidneys, but his liver enzymes were up. And that he'd need more testing to see what was going on. It might be hyperthyriodism, which is treatable, there are three treatments, surgery, pills which he'd be on for life, and an iodine treatment. Surgery is out because his age, and the iodine treatment is costly. So if thats what it is, what she recommends is the pills. Now if its not his thyroid it might be his liver. I've been reading up on both and now I'm all freaked out. I feel like I should've kept better care of him, besides loving him so much. I mean I did and will continue to do whatever he needs. But I can't help feeling sad and a little depressed. Well, I'll find out Thursday for sure what going on with my old man. I'm hoping things turn out well. |
