need help with second yorkie Hi! I recently brought home a second yorkie (age 3 months, named Dolce) and already have a first yorkie (age 8 months, named Baci). Baci is usually very submissive, mellow, quiet, etc. However, upon Dolce's arrival, he occasionally growls at Dolce, tries to mount him, and displays food and toy aggression. Dolce has a much different personality than Baci; he's outgoing, playful, assertive, etc. How can I make both dogs feel comfortable in the home together and get along better? Also, any tips on feeding since Baci is now being protective of his food? Thanks! Jennifer |
I suggest giving each their own space/crate, toys, food, water etc. Give Baci everything first. First attention, first new toy, first food, first treat. Give them time to get acquainted. They will tell you when it is time for cohabitation. I had two ex-pens in my living room during this time and it was not long before I caught them cuddling together and knew the time was right. Just don't force them on each other and let Baci know he is still #1. |

I agree...I have 2 crates...2 everything.....:D |
I read that dogs will work out who is pack leader, and you should not interfer. I let my dogs work stuff out... never had to break up a fight. I watched as there was growling, wrestleing, and they did work it out. (Not fighting ever) I did tell chewy no if he tried to mount Sadie. They are a year apart. It sounds like your older pup is trying to let the younger pup know he is the boss....I wold let them be as long as there is no fighting or hurting. When I wasn't right there I did put the pup in an expen till she was bigger and could hold her own. I didn't trust them together alone right away. |
