Swifter Wet Jet Cleaner Warning
 

I recievd this email today and thougtht I should post it as a warnign in case others aren't aware of the potential dangers...

Recently a neighbor had to have their 5-year old German Shepherd put down due to liver failure. The dog was completely healthy until a few weeks ago, so they had a necropsy done to see what the cause was. The liver levels were unbelievable, as if the dog had ingested poison of some kind! The dog is kept inside, and when he's outside, someone's with him, so the idea of him
getting into something unknown was hard to believe. My neighbor started going through all the items in the house. When he got to the Swiffer Wetjet,
he noticed, in very tiny print, a warning which stated 'may be harmful to small
children and animals.
He called the company to ask what the contents of the cleaning agent are
and was astounded to find out that antifreeze is one of the ingredients.
(actually he was told it's a compound which is one molecule away from
antifreeze). Therefore, just by the dog walking on the floor cleaned with the
solution, then licking its own paws, it ingested enough of the solution
to destroy its liver. Soon after his dog's death, his housekeepers' two cats also died of liver failure. They both used the Swiffer Wetjet for quick cleanups
on their floors. Necropsies weren't done on the cats, so they couldn't file a
lawsuit, but he asked that we spread the word to as many people as possible
so they don't lose their animals. This is equally harmful to babies and small children that play on the floor a lot and put their fingers in their mouths a
lot. PLEASE, EVEN IF YOU DO NOT HAVE BABIES, SMALL CHILDREN OR OWN A
PET PLEASE SEND THIS ON! So, if this can happen to your dog, what about the kids!

Thanks you for posting this. I had read the same of some of the other cleaners such a Clorox sometime back.

It's great to share warnings, but this particular one has been proven un-true. It's an internet myth.

Oh my goodness! I was just about to go throw out our Swiffer WetJet! :eek:

The wet clothes are still chemicals and should be kept out of reach. Unfortunately I did know someone who's Yorkie did chew on a wet swifter cloth and did die from ingesting the chemicals :(

That being said - I can hardly imagine any kind of chemical is good for our little pups, and I think we all try to limit the amounts they are around them. :)

Hm, I really think someone needs to get down to the truth on this one. I've heard so many different things about it and it makes me want to know what the hell the real truth is!!!!! I still use mine but I hate it because the solution seems stronger here lately and just suds and never washes clean off the floor. I'm ready for a steam mop.

The truth is in the above link. Anyone who receives these types of emails should check thm out on snopes or one of the other sites that track internet rumors and myths before passing them on as fact

Uh, I understand that, I already saw that, I saw it before when the last person posted about this. However, this is what makes me wonder just how safe they really are...

as having a small child, i only use white vinagar and water to clean everything, and baking soda, safe for all, anything with keep out of reach isnt in my house, its no good

Thank GOD! :eek: I use my Swiffer all the time and did just last night as a matter of fact. I was about to go toss the thing in the trash until I read your reply!
