AKC/CKC registration What is CKC registration? What is AKC registration? What are the pros and cons to having the registrations? Can you have one registration and not the other? |
Canadian Kennel Club and American Kennel Club.. I think the breeder registers them so you purchase them registered.. Not completely sure on how the registration works. |
If he is registered in U.S.A. , CKC mean Continental Kennel Club . |
Yes, I meant Continental Kennel club |

If you are planning to show or breed your dog, then the registration is necessary. You can breed an unregistered dog, but the cost of raising a litter remains static while the unregistered puppies sell for much less. I prefer to buy from show breeders. Not because I am particularly interested in showing, but because show breeders pay very close attention to conformation in choosing mates, and will likely have given the dam and pups the utmost in care, resulting in the healthiest babies. Home breeders may breed with love and care for their animals as well, but when breeding for show, there is also a lot of science that goes into the choices made. My experience comes from non-Yorkies, but I expect it applies to Yorkies as well. |

[QUOTE=SweetViolet;2431550]If you are not planning to show or breed your dog, the registration is only good for bragging rights. . :thumbdown:thumbdown:thumbdown |
AKC is by far the most reliable registry. CKC has the reputation of being a "catch-all" registry for those that cannot be registered AKC. For instance, a breeder gives limited registration on a puppy so it will not be bred to death by some unethical breeder and the buyer turns straight around and registers it CKC and goes right on. Almost any mix can also be registered CKC by providing a couple of statements from people that will verify that the dog is full blooded and a picture. I am talking about Continental Kennel Club. |
AKC is the oldest registry in the US. But as with any it of any of the registration (record keepers) AKC,CKC,ACA,APR,APRI. Registries are only as good and honest as those breeders breeding. Papers can be falsified in any of them. None guarantees you will receive a healthy dog. AKC is Not the only one to offer dog shows. APRI also does Dog Shows. They judge a dog on it’s own merit and how well it fits the standard. They do not pit dogs against dogs as AKC does or award the dog points by who's standing at the other end of the lead. Most show breeders are honest but you can also find some who are not so honest. Best thing to do is know your breeder well, be it Pet, Hobby or Show breeder . |
