Hi Newbie here with a question! My new little guy Gizmo loves all his toys! But he recently discovered the basket of kitty toys that I have and has been ripping apart the little mice toys that are filled with that cardboard looking stuff. Is it ok for him to be chewing on those? Also what about the kitty toys that have catnip in them? |
Hi! :wavey: Welcome! :welcome4: :yorkiesar These little guys get into everything, don't they!! They love to tear and shred and put everything in their mouths. I, personally, wouldn't want him chewing on the cat toys, especially the ones with cat nip in them. I can imagine it will be hard to keep him away, but perhaps you can put the basket up out of reach. Of course, that doesn't help if the cat has left a toy on the floor, but it would be a start. :) |
:welcome4: to YT!! We are glad you are here! I believe I had read somewhere that catnip toys were okay for dogs...but I don't know about them tearing them up and possibly ingesting it. You should use the SEARCH button at the top of the page (in the blue tool bar) and type in catnip to see if anything come up....as I am sure there was a discussion on it in the past. If you have any questions or need help with the site...please don't hesitate to ask! |
Welcome to YT!:) I would be leery of cat toys posing a choking hazard. My mom has yorkies and cats and her dogs are trained to leave the cat toys alone. I would just keep a close eye on him around them until he's old enough to learn. We would love to see pictures of Gizmo!:) |
Hi welcome to Yorkietalk, there are a few cat toys that are OK, but most can be too easily ripped apart, and ingested, some even have bells in them, so you need to be careful. I do like the rubber balls made for cats, Joey's mouth is so small that he can't grasp a ball made for dogs, so the cat's balls are a great alternative when we play fetch. When they are rolling on the floor, it's much more challenging than a toy that lies dormant. |
Welcome to YT!!!! :yorkietal:yorkiesar:happyboun |
Welcome to YT. I would try to keep this from happening as much as I could. It is hard though. Best luck. |
I would definately try and keep the cat toys away from Gizmo. It is better to be safe then sorry. Best Wishes. :aimeeyork |
Welcome to YT! :wavey: Glad you are here! Maybe you can find some favorite toys for Gizmo. You can read up on some favorites in the forum called Toys. Some of the favorites at our house are the Hide-a-Squirrel toys, the Everlasting treat ball |
Thanks for all the good advice! I did post some pics of Gizmo in the picture section under " Gizmo 8 weeks" |
