10 weeks and 3 1/2 pounds?!? Toby is 10 weeks old and weighs 3 1/2 lbs. Is it just me or is that waaaay too much? My dh is always telling me he's too fat, lol. I may be feeding him too much, but I really don't understand the feeding guidelines on his food. I'm feeding him Natural Balance Original Ultra. The instructions say " If weight of dog is 5-15 lbs they get 1/2 to 1 cup a day. For puppies feed up to 2 times per pound of body weight over adult levels" I'm probably feeding around 1 cup per day, plus he gets cheerios for going potty on the pad (prob around 5-10 per day). He poops 5 to 6 times a day. Am I overfeeding? Also, I've been thinking about changing his food anyway because he has started scratching and seems to have dandruff. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!!! ~Crystal |
He is just fine! Do not withhold his food. He is only 10 1/2 weeks old. my Suzi was 3 lbs at 9 weeks old . She is now 10 months old and is 7 lbs. t is better to have a little chubby puppy then a thin one. At this age food and water should be offered all day long. :aimeeyork |

:welcome4: to YT!! We are glad you are here! You may also check out the Health & Diet section HERE for additional information. My dogs do not get a cup of food each day...but it all depends on the food, etc, I guess. I also give treats for training, etc. pieces of fruit or veggies, Yorkie Yummie, cheese, etc. |
Welcome to YT!!!!!!!! I also have fat puppies:D Took them to the vet today and at 12 weeks they weigh 3lbs and 4lbs. :yorkiesar:happyboun:rollingey:dogwalk: |
Might be just an initial growth spurt or could be a little teapot :D Live, love, eat, be happy LOL |
I think thats a lot of food and free feeding will make potty training lots harder. I would not feed more than 3 meals a day if you want to get on a schedule with pottying. It also depends on what food you are feeding |
My Princeton Jack will be one of the 27th of this month and he already weighs 16.4 lbs. I love him to pieces no matter what size he is.:animal36 |
I know you questioned whether or not he may be mixed with another breed anyway. He is probably just genetically programed to be a bigger dog, about 10 pounds, I'd guess. |
jackson is 13ish weeks and is a little over 6 pounds! lol |
