Need advice--cleaning cleaning carpet today! I'm going to shampoo my carpet today. I've seen postings about using vinegar in the cleaning machine--do you add the vinegar in with the cleaning liquid or do you just use the vinegar??? I don't have a bad urine problem, but I want to make sure I get rid of what I have. :) :animal-pa Sergeant and Baxter's mom :animal-pa |
There are several enzyme cleaners you can buy. An enzyme cleaner is a special cleaner that has enzymes, which are bacteria, that eat the protein in urine stains. Dogs can smell anything, and if there is a bit of the protein left they will return to the spot. Vinegar is a neutralizer, and it's good at getting rid of smells, but I'm not sure it can get rid of all the smell to a dogs nose, which is thousands of times more sensitive than ours. The problem with the enzyme cleaners is that they take time to work, you spray them on and let them dry manually, while they are drying the enzymes are eating the protein. Hoover has a pet carpet cleaner formula that is said to get rid of urine stains, and I used it last time, and was happy with the results, but I always pretreat urine stains first. There's nothing worse than finishing the job, and your dog sees the whole carpet as one giant pee pad. I know some people say vinegar, and I use it on tile and it works fine, but it doesn't seem to help on carpets, it does get rid of odors to human noses. |
Carpet cleaning magic I have alot of kiddos and Puppies in my life and although I love every minute of it .....I do have carpet issues sometimes! Here is what works great for me! I add 1 tablespoon of bleach to the WATER (very important) I like to buy the different scented bleach! If you add a small amount of bleach to the water you can even use it on darker carpet without any color changes....Just try a teaspoon first!;) Hope that helps.. Works great on ivory or eggshell clothing stains also! |
I pre-clean with Bissel pet odor and soil (spray and scrub lightly with old toothbrush), then clean the rest of the carpet with the same product. This works really well and you don't have to worry about damaging your carpet. |
I use the recipe someone posted (hydrogen peroxide, Dawn & baking soda). I put it in the water tank and set my Bissell to 'rinse'. |

I have heard people using vinegar, but I do not know how much or what, as I do not have carpet. I know my MIL using 409 in her shampooer...just pours some into the tank. And I have a friend who uses some sort of Oxy cleaner in hers..... I don't know if there will be any information in these areas, but you can check....the training section HERE and the products and review setion HERE. You might also try the SEARCH button at the top of the page (in the blue tool bar) and type in vinegar or carpet cleaner, etc. and see if you can come up with anything that way. |
