Shaving puppies ears? I recently listed my pups in and I got a reply from a woman saying I should have started shaving their ears a week ago so they would "pop" like they're supposed to.. they are nine weeks old.. Is this true? |
I dont know what "pop" means, but I start shaving ears at about 3 weeks of age and then every two weeks. This will make it easier for the ears to stand up. |
Yes, the weight of the hair on their ears can keep them droopy, instead of allowing them to stand up. :) |
my pups ears were trimmed nicely when I got him and his ears were not standing up. I shaved them and taped them but still no luck! they stay up for maybe an hour or do but then fall down. his ears are not large nor are they super thick, its almost as if they are too thin and just flop down haha. I also message them daily. I really want them to stay up! The shaving seemed to help some. maybe im not shaving enough or far enough down. How much should be shaved, like how far down the back of the ear? |
My breeder would shave their ears if they didn't stand up. Suri's ears were already standing when I first saw her at 4 weeks. |
I shave trixie's ears just because they look better that way. She looks like a kitty. I do think they look better |
Baron's Breeder was more worried about the 2 smallest pups in the litter of 5. She never took the time to shave Baron's ears. When I got him he was 6 months old and she told me to shave his ears if I wanted them to stand. I shaved and taped to no avail. His 1 ear is 3/4 up and the other one is 1/2 up!! I love him like that. He has the cutest personality and I LOVE him just the way he is. Though I wish he would learn to poop on the puppy pads!!!! He wears a belly band too!!! :D |
