Yes i take Layla everywhere with me in her purse. Since she was a puppy we would let her investigate it and would do practice runs in the house or around the block. When i take it out she practically jumps in it now. She still always gets a treat when she goes in and when she comes out. And for the most part she sleeps the whole time in there- but its something you have to do gradually and keep up with it and before you know it she will love going in it.

Oh i forgot to mention- i usually drape a jacket or a sweater over the purse- like you would if you were carrying a bag and didn't want to carry your jacket- this usually covers the mesh area enough for no one to see in but that lay can still breath :)

Also in our family- there are times that Layla needs to be in her purse- we travel a lot and we don't leave her in the car and won't leave her in a hotel- so she comes- and she is good as gold.

thanks for all of your replies! so, how do you train your dog to go in the bag? do they just go in & like it?

I prefer walking Thor as well, but the purses are very handy for places where walking him would not be appropriate, like a taxi.

we use the jacket trick too,if anyone has any good suggestions for a purse good at hiding them,let me kno!

No mine like to walk around they dont want to be carried.:aimeeyork. They will just drive me crazy if i try to put them in Prince will whine,lol

i thought i share this. My sister in law babysat charlie once. He was about 3.5lbs then..she found one of her big purse and put him in there and cover the purse with her sweater. She and her bf took charlie to the movie. She said the whole time he didn't even bark. I was scared they will get kick out but was very happy to hear he behave himself for them. I don't think I can do this though. I bet with me he will be barking left and right. He loves to bark when he knows i am around.

Hello, I'm new to this....:)
I was hoping to find someone who travels with their children/child. I want to go on a vacation-cruise and found so far--that the Cunard line is the only one with a kennel! Anyone out there know anything different?
Also, who has experience putting the children in cargo when flying?
As I have 2, it's impossible to take them in the plane together,
I need some advice. Can I put them in a wire cage instead of a plastic kennel? I was told that AA would take them when the temp was above 45* and under 82*. I plan to tour Europe with a rental car.
Go to dog shows, flea markets, etc. and relax.
Hotels/restaurants, etc. welcome small well behaved pets there. :cool:

I have shipped bunnies in Cargo before but I don't think I would do that with my pup. Maybe someone else can share their experiances?
I do think that oyu are only allowed one carry on and as far as pups go I think only one per carrier, but I have heard of people putting two pups in one carrier. I would be too scared. We are going to Wis. in May so I need to start figuring something out, but I will probably just use my Petsfly carrier.

I would double-check that the wire cage will be okay -- I just read that airlines only allow plastic carriers. I'd think ideally you could put them both in one carrier and have them ride in the cabin with you.

I must admit I'm a bag freak, and doggie bags are my indulgence
(dont ask how many bags Violet has) heh-heh. Violet LOVES going around in her bags, and when Olive was alive, they loved being in the bag together (ofcourse the bag had to be bigger for 2 dogs).

From day one with both dogs, I took them around in their bags. Violet feels so secure in her bag, she would rather be in it, than walk on a leash.

From the time Violet was a puppy, I put her in her bag for a few minutes every day (even if I was just walking around the house), so that she would get accustomed to it. I would also leave her bag opened on the floor, and she would go in it on her own, and go to sleep (like a dog bed).
Now, whenever she sees me getting dressed, she'll immediately run to her bag and jump in.

I travel a lot, and I take Violet with me, so it was important that she felt comfortable and safe in her bag.

If the dog is smaller, I think it's a safe way to bring them around, especially if you are in a crowded or busy place.

Twinkle is too big for a bag so even though she's with me as much as possible she has to walk, so I can't take her into shops or anything like that. I think the bags are a great idea for smaller dogs if you're going somewhere crowded, the strollers too. xxx xxx

I used to do that with trixie. But she started to peak trhough a whole, and I got in trouble in some of the stores. Thaqt is why I stopped doing that.

hate to say it but this is from the american airlines website... "No pets are accepted for travel to the United Kingdom." i looked because i'm going to europe in june.

Molly is too big for a purse at 14lbs, but i have the feeling she wouldnt accept one anyway. She too nosy and wants to be on the ground sniffing everything!! if i take her into a shop, or on an escalator, i just pick her up. She has travelled on the london underground, on buses and a taxi this way. :)

I was in Wal-Mart once and this older lady came in with a new little puppy. She just wanted to get some puppy supplies and the door greeter or whoever she was kept yelling at her telling her she can't bring that puppy into the store. It was summer and the lady didn't want to leave it in the car and wanted to have the puppy with her for size purposes on what to buy. But the employee just kept yelling at her making her leave. I thought it was rediculous. As long as your carrying them and not letting them run all over the store what's the big deal. You could always say it's a therapy dog and they alert you when your about to have a siezure!! I've thought of that but not sure I'd say it or not.

thats silly, i think as long as the dog is contained in a stroller or bag or in someones arms it should be fine in a store(if theres no food). If the dog is barking or being a nuisance thats one thing but most of our dogs here behave just fine in public...mine behaves better than my lil sis! :rolleyes:

I have this one from Dog Whimsey for when I need total sneaky! They put a feather boa trim in browns, grey & blacks-around the top, so even if his head kinda' pokes up-it matches his fur! In a pinch he has gone into Cracker Barrel & slept in it on the floor. He never gets noticed in thie fully contained bag! Kay

When Ginger was little I had a celltei that I used as carrier/carseat for the vets office, and trips in the car. Although, she was always encouraged to walk for herself on a leash, and now that she's a great big teapot of a girl, I'm glad of that.:)

The celltei's are pricey, but very well thought out.

I'm sure the people that really DO have service dogs appreciate you not using their needs as your excuse. :rolleyes: I realize many dishonest people do it, but abuse of a system put in place for those who really DO need it is going to eventually cause them unneccessary hardships. (I couldn't fathom taking my grandmother's handicap parking pass so I could park closer in stores.) Sorry, but the lying to take advantage of something or thinking one is above the rules and that they shouldn't apply to them is just one of my pet peeves.
I guess I'm in the minority that understands why stores restrict dogs from being brought in. I love my dogs...key phrase MY dogs...I can easily see why others wouldn't want to be around strange dogs everytime they walk out the door. I realize that the majority of the world does not feel the way about dogs that we do here on YT.

I would love to get a nice backpack... I can't tell from the pictures, do those bags all have mesh on the each side? I think it really helps Thor when he can see out of the bag.

Several years ago, I found a backpack for Hope. My husband puts her in it when we hike with Rio, and lets her out when we stop to rest. It makes fo great fun!!!!! Good luck finding a perfect one for you.

Where we are mostly all the places allow small dogs. As long as you can carry them around. We were at Best Buy the other day and I was suprised to see a person with two dogs. I ask and they said as long as you can carry them you can bring them in. :rolleyes:

Okay, I have never said Thor was a service dog, but I wouldn't faint with shock if someone did it either. If you use a handicapped person's pass to park near a store, you are potentially taking that spot away from someone else who is truly handicapped. Saying your dog is a service dog when he isn't doesn't prevent actual service dogs from entering the store. Yes, if millions of people start lying about it, it could be a problem, but I don't see that happening now.

This is not the same, but two of the parks I take Thor to have very clear signs saying "No Dogs Off Leash". Of the dozens of dogs in the park, how many are leashed? That would be zero.

There are different levels of social contract. For instance, I strongly believe you should always pick up your dog's poop, because even one poop makes the park less pleasant for everyone. I'm not going to lose sleep about taking a small, quiet dog in a carrier into a store, though.

Anyway, I don't want to hijack this thread, so I will only talk about purses henceforth, I swear. :)

We bought Tiki a bag for this and let her play in it. When she was small (2 -3 pounds, my husband would carry her inside his jacket. Now when we go, she goes on her blanket in the baby seat of the carts. I don't have to leash her or anything because she just either sits or lies down. Actually I never thought of leashing her. She has made many friends at Target. If we don't he her with us, they stop me and look in the cart to see if she is there. Some will say something liek "No pup today , huh? If we know we will have to go into a grocery store, we leave her home. Or to WalMart. They don't allow them unless they are service animals. They know us well at our local WalMart but when we travel, I just answer yes if they ask if it is a service dog. They are not allowed to ask anything else at WalMart.
But she does go to Lowes, Home Depot, most stores like that. Oh and Walgreens. They love her there too. We took her to Walgreens to have her picture taken with Santa in her pretty red Christmas sweater with black fur trim. The one they took was not so good, but I took my camera too and one turned out so cute, it will be our Christmas card next year.

I take Zaira everywhere with me that I can. She either walks on a leash or I carry her in my arms. I have never tried a purse but that is because I have never seen one that I really like. I am afraid that she might cry because if I have to put her into her kennel she cries the whole time. It is so sad. Her little face will be wet! Like a little kid she really cries.

You would be surprised how soon yorkies get used to the life of luxury:D. My baby goes everywhere in her bag

Isn't it hard to resist the crying? my baby did that too . She would cry and when I went to get her there were real tears down her face. i bought her a blanket which I placed in her crate at night, to get her used to the bag I put the blanket inside the bag and no cries yet.:D:D
