Pet steps Sophie is 17 weeks old and sleeps with my wife and I. Yes.....she is spoiled like all of your Yorkies! :) My cats intrigue here when they enter the room. Our bed is about 33" off the floor. (Platform style with drawers). Today she fell or jumped from the bed to play and my wife and I heard her thud! She was fine and we were worried! Any suggestions on steps that would reach a bed of this height? Any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated! |
Yes, you could get steps but they could still fall from the bed. Not all dogs will use them. Do you have a padded carpet on the floor. If you do a search on here you will find many dogs who have been injured and even killed falling or jumping from beds or even couches. My dogs have never tried to jump off our bed and we have our box spring and mattress directly on the floor. Even so our bed is 23" high and we do have a very padded carpet floor. I would be very careful if your pup tends to try to jump down maybe the bed isn't the best place for her. Good luck whatever solution you find |
I want to get steps for my baby , but am afraid then she will have run of the house:D She already owns everyone lol. |
You can get some on eBay. |
Bed, Bath, and Beyond sells an affordable set. My grandparents got them for us for christmas and the dogs love them. If you or some one you know is handy with woodworking, maybe buy some wood and carpeting and have someone custom make it that way you know your baby will be able to reach your bed. |
i saw steps at walgreens on sale for $10!! i'm thinking of going there and purchasing some. |
There are a lot of them that you can buy, but you can also make your own. Maybe one of the members will tell you how to make them. |
For decoration purposes - we use ottomans. They cost a little more- but look great! |

Yes, I know. This is my greatest fear! She has actually taken 3 leaps from the bed in the 6 weeks that we've had her. Each time she comes out smelling like a rose. Our floor is padded and carpeted. I was researching pet ramps today instead of steps. I think that would be easier for her. But again, our bed is 33- 35" high. Most ramps only go to 27". her little legs won't make it those last 6-8". Unless I'm not giving her enough credit. She's a fearless little thing. I know sleeping in bed with us isn't a great option but here goes. If we crate her, she wakes up every 2 hours to go potty. If we put her in bed with us, she will do at last 5-6 hour sleep without having to go potty! This is wonderful! But I don't have to tell all those new mommies out there what that feels like. So this is the reason we keep her in our bed. |
Thanks for the info. I'm thinking too she won't use the steps. So I was considering a pet ramp instead. Our room is padded and carpeted. She's done 3 stints off the bed. One was a leap, and the other two I think were a fall. She survived all three without a hitch. But I worry that we are pushing our luck. Our bed is very high. Although she is about 4.5 lbs. Some breeders have told me that these little yorkies are stronger than they are given credit for. I'm still leary though.....Thanks for your insight. By the way....were in PA. do you live. We are in Lebanon, which is about 13 miles outside Hershey. EVERYONE knows where Hershey PA is! |
Steps I have steps but my dogs would never use them. They prefer a small padded box with lets that I got from Bombay Company many years ago, almost like a stepstool or ottoman. One hop and they would be up. And to this day my yorkie still jumps down with a thud! Erika |
