Stressing Yorkie My Daughter's yorkie is chewing up everything while my daughter is at work..blinds, gates , and whatever even though she is closed off in kitchen! My daughter is going through a divorce and the yorkie is not used to confinement and really stresses out while being closed off and chews everything in her way..Now that my Daughter has to work her yorkie is really stressing out being left alone! Any suggestions as her last resort is to put her in a crate! She chewed up 7 sets of blinds before she confined her to kitchen..I think she is just really stressing out being left alone..She has noone to check on her or keep her during the day and cannot afford doggie care..Is there anything they can be given to help with their stress until they learn to cope? thanks in advance to all replies!:aimeeyork |
Does she leave a tv or radio on for her dog? If she keeps doing that, I would put her in an xpen. How old is she? |
yes, she leaves tv on for her..she is 5 years old! thanks for reply! |
Wow, she's really upset it sounds like that all of a sudden she's by herself. Your daughter may want to start leaving on her days off work for maybe an hour, then start making it a little longer, this way she will see she's coming back home and not leaving her. Poor baby.:( |
:(I know, my daughter is so upset by it! She has tried everything so guess she will have to consider getting a crate for her and like you said leave her in it little at a time over the weekend..:aimeeyork |
Try an x-pen before you crate her. Put her bed, toys, food/water, and pee pads if she needs them into the x-pen -- away from anything else she can chew. Leave her chewy things, Kong or rawhides, so she has something to do while mom is away. I'm sure this is a stressful time for both of them. Good luck resolving this problem. |

I would definitely do the exercise pen. It will give her a little bit of room for all her things, but keep her out of trouble at the same time. My yorkie loves her ex-pen, she knows it's "her" space. |
Maybe a good long walk in the morning would help. Yorkies are full of energy and exercise may help to relieve her stress. If she's tired enough, she may just sleep while your daughter is at work. Another walk after work might help too. :aimeeyork |

A 5 year old dog all of a sudden being left alone for long periods is going to feel some separation anxiety If she is corralled in the kitchen make sure that there is Nothing that she can get a hold of Otherwise she's going to need to be penned Make sure she has some items that smell of your daughter and toys that can occupy her time |
Sounds like she has separation anxiety. An xpen is an excellent idea. Leaving a radio on with lite soothing music is also good. I used this product for awhile when I had to confine my babies, it plugs in, and I know it helped because I watched from a webcam after leaving and there was a difference! Works for mine! |
how tall are the x-pens as daughter tried a really tall gate and she climbed over..she has also tried putting something in with her scent on it also..maybe an x-pen will work..thanks to all! |
I would try a ex pen or the dap dog appeasing pheoreome and leave something down that smealls like her. Leave the tv and radio on or a kong to keep her occupied getting the treats out of it, something you dont have to worry about him choking on. |
Has your daughter thought of getting a second little dog...it doesn't have to be a yorkie...but if she could get a playmate for her dog...then she wouldn't be so upset being left alone for such long periods of time. |
