Does your yorkie do this too?? Hey I wanna ask some questions if thats ok. Since me and bailey moved out of living with my ex and into a place on our own we have become REALLY close. He has been my little rock through the hard times and i love him to bits. I have noiced tho he has become REALLY attatched to me, he wants to be on me ALL the time even if i stand up to turn the tv on he follows me, he crys when he cant sit on me and fall asleep. If he has been on me and i stand up he tries to sit on my feet to fall asleep. If i am standing and doing the dishes he its on my feet, really if i stand still more than 10seconds he is sitting on my feet. he wants to be cuddled and stroked 24/7 he has toys to play with and we go on a 45min walk everyday. I am a little worried that he is coming to clingy, i LOVE it dont get me wrong, but he has started to cry if he cant sit on me or if i wont give him attention, any advice? is this normal? Is your yorkies the same? how do i deal with this? thanks hehe xxxx |
Maybe he is feeling a little seperation anxiety with the recent move. How long did he know your ex? Do you think he might be missing him? |
While it's nice it might not be so healthy as he can probably develop a touch of seperation anxiety. I would suggest trying to get him involved in playing with a bone or toy when you have things to do....that way he is not solely dependent on you for all of his needs. I know right now he needs love because his family dynamics has changed but just be careful that you don't turn him into a monster. |
I have 3 babies but my female was a real 'Daddy's girl' and she became extremely clingy when my ex left:( It takes time for them to adjust so hang in there! |
My Dexter is almost just like that. He has gotten a tiny bit better... my boyfriend jokes that he does not need legs with the amount of time I hold him. He is always whining to be held, cuddled, be on my lap, etc... I don't know if Bailey is protective of you or maybe he feels your sadness and wants to comfort you. When my ex and I split, I was very clingy to my boys, they were my rock... and I feel like I maybe created monsters because they are very needy and clingy. I don't know if you can break the habit once its been formed. |
Good question. My two boys do the same.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork It's hard to cook around them :p I don't want to spill anything hot on them. Josie would rather hang out with "Dad" :( If I go to the bathroom and close the door- Jojo will sit by the door. Sometimes when I open it he falls down cause he was leaning up against it :D I like it...so I'll go with it's normal. :) :animal-pa I will say that Yorkies have a special way of knowing how we are feeling so maybe he's trying to comfort you. maybe let him know your doing ok. He'll slowly adjust. Good Luck |
I feel that it may be two part. One is that he is trying to deal with the change in his pack. He just needs some time to sort things out. The second is that he is sensing your feelings and is trying to protect, comfort, guard, care for you. I would start with verbally confirming to him that ya'll are fine, things are different but you are happier now and that he is safe. Neither you or he are going anywhere. The goal here is that he must be invited onto your lap. Start by telling him no when you sit down and he tries to sit on you. Moving him off of your lap and try to get him to just lie beside you, touching still, but just not on your lap. You will probably have to pick him up and place him beside you several times, but just keep at it. Then if he'll lay there even if just for a moment at first, praise him, maybe give him a small treat, and then YOU pick him up and place him in your lap. When you get up, pick him up off your lap, place him on the couch, tell him you will be right back and then go do what you need to. The same would go for him sitting on your feet. Tell him no, pick him up place him on the floor. Calm, firm, quiet voice. It will take some time...come here to yell if you need to  but keep after it and he'll get better as he feels better about his new environment. Don't ask me how to get him to not follow you from room to room tho. I've never been able to get mine to understand, I'll be right back, I'm not going anywhere, you can stay here. What I've found is that only with age does it not become necessary to follow me everywhere. Good Luck. |
