When can i spay her ?? Sydney is in heat , she has been for about 10 days now. She is three years old and I want to have her spayed ( I didn't do it before because my old vet never really said anything about it to me ,so I just figured I wouldn't put her through it .... but our new vet filled us in on the benefits so I am having both girls done) So my question is how long after her heat can she be spayed? Do I have to wait until her full heat is over ( or longer) or is it O.K. to do it when she just isn't bleeding anymore ? Also does spaying them both make them more mellow towards each other ( or other dogs)? They aren't aggressive but I just want to know what to expect. Thanks...:) also I have heard of Laser spaying , has anyone had this done ? pros/cons.... |
I went to the vet today, because my old cat is having some health problems. While there I asked the vet about this, because I had planned to take Tila in to get spayed before her first heat too. She's almost 10 months and is now in her first heat. My vet told me, they can do it while she is in heat, but it's more costly and will take longer. She was saying something about the blood vessels. But she told me it would probably be better to wait until she's done her heat before taking her in to get spayed. It'd probably be best to ask your vet to see what they say, just to be sure. :) |
I will go ahead and wait to have her spayed till her heat is fully over. How about laser spaying ? Has anyone done this and is it better/easier on the dogs? Also will their attitude towards the other female dog change? Sydney isn't aggressive at all towards Chloe but she is always hyper and on alert around her , she always has to watch her. Will Spaying mellow her? And when I spay Chloe will that help Syd calm down as well ? |
Yes, it's best to wait at least a month after her heat. Their blood vessels are engorged while in heat and there is more chance of bleeding. As far as their personalities changing I've never observed this with any of mine but they have become lazier and more mellow and are more apt to gain weight so keep an eye on this |
Fiona got spayed 3 weeks after she came into heat. The vet did say her uterus was quite active and inflammed, but she did well. Fiona actually had a false pregnancy. I would just wait until she doesn't look at swollen down there. :animal-pa |
My vet said to have molly spayed halfway between heats (does that make sense!!) She was fine and her personality didnt change at all. Still a little monkey at times, and full of mischief. She did put on a bit of weight, but she has lost it now by me cutting down on her food a little bit, and doing more running round the fields! (sadly it hasnt made me lose weight tho!!) :D |
I would wait till after she gets out of heat. I think it would be safer, and less expensive. |
