HELP - new to yorkies I need some advise - I just got a 3 1/2 year old yorkie, as far as I can tell my husband and I are her 5th owners - 1. people who owned her mom, 2nd - the first people to adopt her 3rd - Yorkie rescue place and the 4th is the person who we got her from who could not take care of her. She is well loved and is already the boss of the other animals. the bad thing is our other dog, who we got about 2 years ago and is about the same age is also name Lilly. Lilly is shaved, no long hair except for her ears, MY QUESTION TO ALL - is it normal that she is very greasy/oily, I have to give her a bath every other day. but is it normal about the oilyness?????? THANKS FOR THE HELP :animal36 |

welcome! I wouldn't bathe her every other day, you are pretty much over doing it, and probably removing the nessary oils on the skin...try doing it weekly, or biweekly, or you may want to take the dog to the vet to see if she has skin issues or allergies! good luck! :animal-pa |
I would love to bathe her only once a week, but she feels really nasty if I don't bathe her that often |
Maybe if you get her on a good dog food it will subside. I'm no expert, like some the of people here, but my dogs have benefited from a good kibble. |
I would only bath her once a week. If it's real bad ask the vet what you can do. |
Hi! :wavey: Welcome! :welcome4: :yorkiesar All good advice here so far. I've only one thing to add. You could easily change her name so that you don't have 2 Lily's. We got both Annie and Boo at 5 years of age and changed their names. They learned them within a few days. Good luck and please post pictures when you can. :) |
got any hints on changing the names |

Boo was an owner drop off at a local shelter and they didn't leave his name :( So the rescue that got him called him Alex. SOOOOOO not an Alex. DH came up with the name Boo, as we were driving home with him. My vote was for Wasabi, a hot Japanese spice. But that's mostly because I like saying the word. WASABI!! It just sounds good to my ears. :D But Boo really fits him and he perked right up when DH said it to him, so Boo it is. My "long way around to the point" point is ;) it really doesn't matter if it's a new name that sounds similar to their old or one that just really seems to fit them, pick a name and use it A LOT in the first several days. They'll figure it out. |
It sounds like your dog may have seborrhea oleosa. You can read about it here: seborrhea Canine Seborrhea I have seen this in dogs before and it can be hereditary or it could have been caused by other things, like over vaccination. You might want to ask your vet but until then I would bathe her in a medicated shampoo and rinse her in apple cider vinegar. The Wonders of Apple Cider Vinegar I am so happy you rescued this little girl. I wish you the best of luck with her. Please keep us posted on how she is doing. |
