My Two Yorkies! Hi Everyone! I am new to the forums...I have two 1.5 year old yorkies; My first is Lulu, she was a rescue when she was 4 months old, she is a petshop doggie, purchased from a person whom 2 weeks after purchasing didn't have the time to train. She is "supposely" half chi/yorkie(u guys can make the judge by her pic lol). She is 4lbs, full of energy, loveable but also has localized mange which is being cared for and has gotten much better, she is beautiful! My 2nd yorkie, Cooper; given to me by a co-worker(last week) who had no more time to care for him. He is 6.5lbs and eats his poop! Cooper was on Science Diet dry/wet with previous owner and he is a little on the lean side; imho, he needs to gain more weight and I would like to take Science Diet off....what can be causing him to eat his poop? Any advice on what I should do? |
People say its caused by malnutrition so feeding better food may help. |
Welcome!! I have no advice to share but wanted to say welcome and congrats on your new addition :) |
Welcome to yt! Olivia was eating her poop too  and others on yt advised me to give her a chunk of pineapple with her meals...I believe it breaks down the proteins further so the poop isn't as appealing to them...not 100% sure about that though. But it does seem to be working, so it was a cheap and easy remedy. If I catch her sniffing it, I tell her "ahhh ahhh" and she will leave it alone - and I try to keep it all cleaned up too so she's not tempted. :) |
Welcome to yorkietalk! I had 3 Pom's few years ago, I couldn't break lolli from eating poo....she would only eat boo bear's. So I had to follow him around & pick it up right away. :p |
Welcome to YT:) |
Hi! :wavey: Welcome! :welcome4: :yorkiesar If you decide on trying the pineapple be sure to give it to both unless you are absolutely sure he is only eating his own. You want to be sure and make both dogs poo's unappealing. That is not to say that poo is appealing ...but you get my drift, right. :p |
I am pretty sure, he is only eating his own, he only did it that one time(yesterday) but his previous owner warned me that he does... I will try the pineapple, do you feed from the can, frozen bag and how much do you place in their bowl? mixed or just on top? Also, I would like to switch from his Science Diet food, he is on dry/wet and he is a little on the thin side...He's been to the vet and he is healthy. What would be a good food to switch too? |
My Lucy was on Science Diet when I got her as a puppy. I have switched her food a few times since then, but like the food I have her & Pebbles on now. There is some many to choose from. For the dry food, check out different ones here, it's a good place for information.... Dog Food Reviews - Dry Dog Foods - Powered by ReviewPost |
