charlie is acting weird today he has been peeing in the house. It all started with this morning. I got up at 5:30am our usual bathroom time to take him out. He had already pee in his crate, however, he did poop outside. Then I gave him a bath this afternoon. He was fine until we were done. He started rolling like a mad puppy all over the carpet and very aggressive. It lasted for awhile before he calm down. Then I put him in his crate so I can go get cotton swap to clean his eye. I came back and he pee in his crate..I went to bathroom to get cleaning supplies and he followed me there. He also pee in the bathroom. He acts so aggressive and hyper at the same time. Somtimes I don't know what to do with him. Thank god he is sleeping now. |
I dont think he was being agressive. JUst sounds like the normal post bathh zoomies that do sometimes get out of control:rolleyes: Keely gets them after every bath time. It seems like there way of saying `Thank god its over and Im out of that stupid bath, my momma was trying to drown me!`kinda thing..lol.. And as for the peeing in the house. He probably drank some bath water and he needed to pee reaaly bad. Keely sometimes does that too. And he may have been damp and didnt want to go outside because its cold? I know keely has also done that..lol |
it is good to know that charlie is not the only one. I thought he was going mad or something. This is the first time he did this. I guess the last time, my husband help me. This time I have to do it by myself. Gosh, Charlie sure was dirty. We live out in the desert in CA so we go for walks in the dirt roads. |
The bath zoomies are quite normal. They all do it. If I saw him really scratching and biting tho, I'd look into the shampoo maybe not being rinsed out well or maybe being too harsh for his skin. But the zoomie-crazies...that's just dogs. The excessive peeing could be an indication of a bladder infection, so watch to be sure it was just a one time thing. If he continues to go a lot, it will coincide that he'll be drinking more too, you may want to get the vet to look him over. We have three Yorkies, so take Charlie's bath zoomies and multiply that by 3. That's what goes on in our home every week.:p:) |
oh yeah, the after-bath craziness!!! I put a towel down on the floor and they go NUTS, rubbing all over it, barking, growling, zooming from one room to another ... up and down stairs, racing through the house like mad men. Its so funny! :) Thats totally normal! |
After bath zoomies.... perfect name for it. All my dogs do it. I wish having a bath gave me that kind of an energy boost, it is such a wild thing. As far as peeing, the OP didn't mention his age and stage of training, but if he's very young it could be just the small bladder, unable to hold much, and excitement causing him to release. It will get better as he matures, but then being a boy he may try "marking" until neutered. It's always something and being a Yorkie mom is really a busy job. |
I 2nd everything above about the peeing (possible UTI, possible small bladder and inability to hold it, and possible marking), but I wanted to add.... Like MauiGirl said, we don't know how old the pup is......if he's less than 1 yr-ish old, it could just be regression. Bella is 9 mo. old (which I guess is like a teenager in dog terms) and for some reason after Xmas, she decided that she didn't really have to go on the pad anymore  Man, did that get frustrating! I felt like I had to go back to stage one to re-train her, but she picked it all back up much faster this time around, thank goodness!! Anyway, I've heard that even when they are 100% trained, pre 1 yr-ish there is always the possibility of regression and having to re-train and be firm! (Do check about the UTI, though, if it continues. That would be my first thing to mark off the "maybe it's...." list because UTI's are at the very least uncomfortable if not painful, AND letting one go too long can allow bladder crystals or stones to form, which you don't want!!) |
Yep, my Jack goes crazy after a bath too. I like the bath time zoomies name too. However, since he is a larger yorkie...16.4 lbs, he doesn't have any problems holding his pee. But of course he's almost one yr old too and that might have something to do with it.:animal36 |
charlie is going to be 4 months old on the 18th of January. |

Good luck and keep it up! And keeping using YT as a resource....it has helped me sooooo much!! |
thanks everyone . bellasmomok, his pee are clear light yellow. I think he is ok. He drank before we went for his bath yesterday. He has been drinking a lot lately and seems to go peepee more than poopoo. I can't stop him from drinking but it is getting hot here and he needs his water. So I will have to take him out more. He has been going to the bathroom every 4 hrs..we are trying to aim for 5-6 hrs. |
I love the after bath "zoomies". It always makes me and my family laugh. As far as peeing I agree with everyone else posted. Roxie is almost 2 and I keep a piddle pad down for days when it's too cold and she won't go out or just in case she's gotta go bad. |

I agree that you ought to have her checked for diabetes though since it seems likes she's drinking more than usual. But you should have bloodwork done anyway after she's 20wks to screen for liver prob's too since it's so prevalent in Yorkies. If the bloodwork is good then I wouldn'tworry about it! |
Mine do the same thing. I don't think it's aggression, but trying to get the water off them. |
