Short hair In winter? I would like to cut keelys hair short. BUtit being winter and all im wondering if she would get too cold? I find that the snow sticks to her alot and that makes her colder. So if i cut her hair would it cut down on the snow balls in her fur? Any of you have a yorkie with short hair that does okay in the snow? Has it caused you problems? Has anybody had it long in the winter before but have also had the fur short in the winter, if so, what were the pros and cons of both? Do you think its a good idea???? BTW- I was thinking about getting it cut toabout 2 inches long. But keeping her "mane" ..lol |

I just like a short cut look better, I also don't cut the hair on the ears so it tends to make the ears fold down, Again a personal preference. |

I keep Layla's hair short for 2 reasons 1- yorkie as we know don't have an under coat so long hair or not- they will be the same amount of cold regardless of whether their hair is long or short 2- the snow balls- we spend SO much time brushing out snow balls from her fur and she HATES it.... so as long as you are bundling her up- which i'm sure you are- long or short hair makes no difference- so i would go with short. Also when the long hair creates the snow balls it keeps the cold closer to their body... so for that reason too i'd go with short :) |
Oh thank you both! I will definatly be cutting her hair short! We had a snow storm today and she went to pee, And in the time it took her to pee and walk back in the house, Her legs were covered in snowballs!.. Its starting to get on my nerves..lol.. I budle her up really good (She even wears a premi hat on the really cold days, i dont want her ears to get frost bite..lol) .. |
We Keep our Biggie's hair short year round. It is snowing today...all we do is make sure he has his coat or a sweatshirt on when going outside. |
1 Attachment(s) Oh, I'm so glad I don't have SNOW to worry about. The frigid Texas cold is tough enough. :D But I'm from Northern Indiana and I understand about snowballs. I agree that it shouldn't matter, long or short hair, they are still going to need a sweater or jacket outside. And you can always put a tee-shirt or jammies on her indoors if you feel she's cold. Your post made me think of this picture. Enjoy, and only 3 more months until it starts to warm up for you. |
Mine both have short hair but they really dont go out in the cold |
Brownies cut Short & wears a witner coat outside. |
