yorkie puppies ears? hello, i'm new to this site, and i'm also a new yorkie owner. i've have my baby for about a month now, he is about 12 weeks old. my baby was sick at first, he got coccidia, but has recoverd really well. i have a few questions for anyone who wouldn't mind answering them.. first off, my baby's ears were perked up when we first got him, then after a while they stated to flip over, one at a time. but when we gave him a bath after that, they went back to standing straight up. will they go back to being flipped over? :aimeeyork also, does anyone know a good way to switch their foods? i have him on a mix of wet pedigree & pedigree puppy dry food and he seems to be doing fine eating a little every now and then when he gets hungry. but the vet suggested that we feed him purina. what would be the easiest way on his tummy to switch his foods? is it okay to give a puppy adult wet food? :animal36 thanks for any help anyone can give! :animal-pa |
To be honest both pedigree and purina are bad foods. I would do a search on here for foods to research about the better brands. Generally anything you find at the grocery store is a poor brand. The ears will go up and down while they are teething |
Those foods aren't the best available to your new baby. I suggest you read through the Yorkie Health & Diet section. There is loads of information there. Welcome to YT! |

Hi! :wavey: Welcome! :welcome4: Fellow Texan :yorkiesar Wow, Marble Falls, what a beautiful part of Texas to live in. Please post some pictures of your baby when you can. The ears will/may go up and down as they teeth. Also, if he has a lot of hair it can weigh them down. You can get a small mustache trimmer and use it to cut off the hair on the upper 1/3 of the ear. This is called tipping and you can find many threads with info on doing this. Start in the Grooming section. You will get a lot of different opinions on what food is the best. Just do your research and make the best decision you can for you boy. Although our vets are wonderful, often times they simply don't know much more then us when it comes to nutrition. The time spent studying it during their schooling is very small compared to everything else they study. There are several threads on YT explaining how to safely switch foods. A good place to start is in the Health & Diet forum. And if all else fails, simply start a thread again with more questions. There are always a lot of people here ready and willing to help. :) |
I wouldn't give a puppy adult wet food. Adult wet food is exactly what it is, for adults. I am not sure about the ears, I didn't get my yorkie as a pup, but I've seen people tape them to stay up? |

Hi, About the ears, Yorkies ears will flop down sometimes when they are teething. My guess from what you have stated is that his ears will stay up, not floppy. The food you have listed is not the best out their. You can go to the Yorkie Health and Diet section and read their. It has a lot of good suggestions on what good food is out their. Just because the vet said it would be a "good" food is not a good indicator that it is "good. Most likely the Vet receives something from the company for promoting their food for them. My vet recommends Science Diet but my Yorkies do not get that. Puppies need special diets than an adult does so stick with a puppy formula. Or look for an all Life stage food, its good for puppies, adults and senior dogs. Good luck with your puppy! |
