We have the same problem here. Our sleigh bed is very high .. well past my waist. We don't let the dogs sleep with us. I'm afraid Chloe would fall off and hit the wood floor and at just over 2 lbs. I am afraid of what may happen. My dh wont get a low bed though he loves our bed  |
we had to do this too. now our bed is just on a box spring on the floor. the mattress is still pretty high because its really think so he jumps off the end of the bed onto a bean bag chair...it works well for now untill we can get some doggy stairs |

I can understand you wanting to do that for Ralphie. ( Love that name. :) ) Here's a suggestion. Maybe you could get a set of bed rails. The kind that people get for their toddlers when they go into a "big boy or girl" bed. That way if Ralphie rolls, he will hit the bed rail and not fall out. Good Luck with whatever you decide. :goodluck: |
:rolleyes:Two More Suckers here! we also put our foam matress on the carpet on the floor... just to avoid our Little Oliver getting hurts when he jumps down.. We can not bear to see him get hurt trying to be near us :animal-pa |

And that is a VERY good suggestion! I wonder if I can find them big enough for a King  ?(the bed...not Ralphie, although he certainly thinks he is King ) Thank you so much for the help! |

Since toddler beds are relatively smaller than regular beds perhaps you could use 2 on each side. I know how you feel about your babies. I have 4 skin kids that I would do anything to keep safe. I have 3 fur babies that I would do anything to keep safe. Call me Crazy that's fine. :D :aimeeyorkCOCO :aimeeyorkPEBBLES :aimeeyorkTRIXIE Maybe you could just put body pillows on the floor so if she does fall she would have a soft landing |
No, but, my dogs have destroyed my leather sectional. Lucky for me, all of mine sleep in their beds in the family room. Now, the little one, I've been having a heck of a time with at night, long story, but, i said something about her sleeping with us(just kidding by the way) and hubby said, that aint happening. I don't want a dog peeing on me in my sleep, or falling off the bed, etc. LOL Glad your baby is okay.. |
thats so sweet of you for doing that, Ralphie is so lucky and I bet he knows that. We have a platform bed (changed from a box spring due to the same reason as yours LOL), and carpet in the bedroom, and we bought dolly stairs to walk up and down. and Im a light sleeper, whenever she moves a bit, I will wake up. thank god she is a little pig and usually sleeps through the night. but lately I got kinda concerned because when she is in a hurry to go somewhere, she will jump off instead of walking down the stairs, I put her in time out a few times when she did that to teach her a lesson! |

I was more afraid of us rolling over on Kayla than her falling off the bed. We have a sleep number bed which is not all that high but we have tried the steps and she will not use them. Now she has gained weight and can't jump on the bed. She barks to be lifted up on it and finally has started sleeping in her bed next to us. We have had the high beds and changed 2or 3 times. Even when our bed was lower one of my schnauzers fell off when she was little and broke her little back leg. So, even if its low they can still get hurt from the way the hit the floor. Scares you death, but, I guess we are some of the crazys too because we would do just about anything for them. I hate that we now have a little porkie yorkie but I'm kinda glad she is sleeping in her bed. |
OMG this is the funiest thing ever. Mia fell off the bed once too. I was horrified. after that I keep waking up to make sure she is not at the edge of the bed. It was a battle. I didn't sleep that night and Mia either. I kept waking up to put her in the middle of the bed and in no time she would be at the edge too. Finally I put her on the floor on her bed and she just left and slept the rest of the night in my fathers room. Can you believe she left me for the night. I was amazed. I'm really trying to get her to sleep in her bed but is soooo hard. Someone always gives in. |
my boyfriend and i kinda have a compromise....while i would love Bailee to sleep with me all nite, I wouldnt sleep worrying about her falling or him rolling over on her so after the 6 am potty break she gets in the bed wiht us until 8 or 10,depending on the class schedule for the day....but if the boyfriend isnt her, she sleeps with me all nite. she stretches out on his side and I have my side :) its not so much about me being alpha dog becuz I am (she doesnt get in the bed if she doesnt potty first) i just like the companionship.shes such a snuggler and I love it.she still knos whos boss tho lol...oh and the db and I went bed shopping this weekend and of course we took in mind if it was gonna be too high for Bailee...what can i say i gues where suckers too!!! i love it tho! |
I have a very comfy chair that is smack-day against my bed. It's low enough for Kalina to jump from the floor to the chair and from the chair to the bed. She sometimes sleeps on the chair (mostly) and sometimes on the bed. Matilda can't quite jump to the chair, so she has to be lifted up - she sleeps in bed right between me and DH. I just like having them near me at night. I'm obsessed too. :D |
Awww, I'm so glad little Ralphie is okay! Sounds like just a fluke that happened for some reason. Even so, good for you for cutting down your bed (lol) - it'll be safer for the little stinker. Our Wylie can get up and down fine, but we have those stairs from Walgreens for Marcel and that's what he uses for our bed. You are such a good Mama! :) |
Just wanted to make a note on those stairs eveyone is using ..a great idea.. but some little stinkers do not use them all the time and end up jumping and falling and with injury..just last week this happened to little Minnie and the poor little baby did not make it...so sad it can be the outcome of a fall for these little ones our motto is : BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY !:animal-pa |

And let me know what bed you end up getting, I might have to get the same one, :D:D:D |

And yes, I definitely have to go get some stairs. |
Samson used to sleep in his bed (in his kennel) and wake up anywhere between 12:30 and 3:30. I would get up, take him out to potty, and bring him in the bed with me and my husband. That got old fast! He now comes to bed with me and sleeps between Mike & I under the covers. During the night I check on him to see where he is too! He eventually comes out and by morning is on top the comforter still between us. Then he comes back under and snuggles with me! Eventually he stands up and is like "let's go, I gotta pee!" |
That is why I do not want to buy a bed and we are sleeping on a mattress put right on the carpet. We didn't even get a box spring so that Pao can get up and down easily. Even with stairs, I know he might not use it because that is him . Our old bed that is pretty high, we have moved it to the guest room but he didn't sleep with us back then. My hubby always say to me, "I know why you don't want to buy a bed. Coz you want the little stinker to be in the bed with us"...heheheh he is right but I aren't telling him so :p |
