Please remember 1st that a Yorkie is not a toy. It's a living breathing creature that needs love, nurishment, training and vet care. Yorkies are very expensive pet's to keep and own. They were not ment to be carried in a purse for show. Also remember the smaller the Yorkie the more at risk for health problems they are. I wish you luck in finding a pet but not one that will get stuck in a purse. I know your young and it's super cute to imagine carrying one around like a lipstick but also remember they are just like any dog. They need freedom to run and play and lot's and lot's of training. They also can break their bones very easily if dropped from a purse or fall off a couch, chair or even your lap. Think about the work that will go into this pet first and foremost. Good luck, |
thanks i didnt mean it like that. i meant as in the size of the puppy not as in i will carry it in my purse. but thanks for the information. i am still trying to find more information on it so i will be prepared before i actually get the dog. |
You could look on this site for breeders and for a lot of information about yorkies and their general care. I would suggest starting by finding a great breeder. There are some breeder questions that you can find in the search option on this site (or even find breeders from YT). I know it helped me to figure out how much I was at the most willing to pay. You also may want to look for breeders in your area by looking in the local paper or google ______ (city) puppies for sale and that should bring up a few places that have dogs that are publicized. Please please take a moment and investigate where you get your dog from and their home. I got caught up in puppy wonderland with my shih tzu and he has severe socialization issues that I am still working with almost 2 years later. Best of luck:) Oh btw, I was so also adament about getting a small yorkie (one that would be under 4lbs full grown) and then I learned from this site about how much care goes into keeping that small pup safe. I have a projected 5.5lbs little boy and a project 4-5lb girl and they fit in my purse fine. |
Choose a carrier wisely Quote:
From one who travels everywhere with a Yorkie... When I have errands that I need to run, Bentley does go with me everywhere (ok, not the grocery... I figure there is probably a TRUE health code issue with that one :) ). Honestly though, I figure he is cleaner then most kids so why should he have to stay alone if I have to go out. He has a special carrier though which keeps him safe. You'll need invest in an actual carrier instead of just a purse. Most important is their safety so you need good ventilation as well as something you are able to tether him/her to in order to prevent injuries should they try to jump. They need access to fresh water at all times and the ability to relax in their space while out "doing the town". Next comes the human comfort level appearance of the carrier. I typically do not have many issues when taking him places. Most ppl just ooh and aah but I also ask them to please not pet him unless they use a wipe (that I happily will provide for them :) ). HEY, he is my baby and if they are offended that's ok. I am not there to entertain them but to protect my baby! :) |
