Afraid of leaving her alone with puppy. HELP, we have two Yorkies: :aimeeyork :aimeeyork" Georgia" for 11 years were she has been a spoil brat Queen & owner of the house, then for :xmastree1: Christmas my loving husband gave me :hearts-xx"Sugar" a tiny 2 pounds, 6 month old compared to Georgia's 12 pounds. Being so fragile we are very protective of her not forgetting that Georgia is the Alfa. Sugar :luv: is a sweet loving puppy :aimeeyork, very smart, curious & playful but Georgia is set in her ways and not happy with the puppy, she growls and snaps at her, twice we've seen her biting Sugar fortunately w/o blood. We say NO when this happens but need advise :confused:to correct her aggressiveness and finally accept :love-hug1her little sister. When we are not home Sugar stays in her crate and Georgia has the run of the house as always, because we don't want anything happening. Help..., Georgia is driving us crazy with her jealousy. |
Macy was the same way when I brought little Kiwi home. Kiwi would try to sniff Macy and play, Macy would jump like she had been shocked haha. We tried not to yell at Macy for growling at her sister and slowly hold them in the same lap. I think part of the problem was the newness of the puppy took attention away from Macy. After about two weeks Macy would look for Kiwi and loved her! It just takes a little time. |
hm... i thought the whole sibling riverary was just between human siblings but i guess it happens to animals as well... this sound like an interesting post. sorry, i can't be much help, i only have one yorkie and i too am curious about this because i do plan on buying a yorkie in the fall and i wonder how my mickey would react to the new puppy... mickey's always very protective over younger dogs at the park but i wonder if he'll get aggressive when the new puppy comes |
First impressions mean everything :cool: The way you introduce a new puppy can make or break a relationship You're right.... these dogs have been Kings and Queens of their domain and a new puppy will generally be seen as a rival Just who is this little thing coming into MY house and taking MY attention away :mad: Don't force any introductions Let the older dog come and investigate on its own when they do let the older dog sniff the puppy's behind and do what it wants Don't let the puppy maul or chase your older dog This will be viewed as threatening The puppy doesn't know proper dog etiquette at this point |
