Petland now excepting unwanted pets ?? Has anyone heard about Petland excepting dogs & cats that owners want to turn over?? I think it is happening here in Iowa. I was on Craigslist trying to find out if I could find out how to get involved in a protest at Petland (this is due to a recent Petland scam - which I posted about earlier today under News http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ml#post2411822 ) Anyway, there is this big discussion on Petland on Craigslist here saying you can turn over your dog to them?? Petland-CONFUSED! I believe this was the original post about it - Petland now excepting unwanted pets has anyone else heard of this? going on in their area? |
We do not have Petlands out here , but that is interesting. Petco, and Petsmart , always have Adoption days, but they are through the SPCA and other big, rescue foundations. I'd be leary if a Petstore starting taking in unwanted pets too. Especially if their reputation is already in question. :thumbdown |
I know Petco takes animals, because I had to turn in two ferrets. The man told me they try to find them new homes at the SPCA days, or if a person really wants one, and can't afford the price of the new ones they'll sell them at a slightly discounted price. |

This Petland has not even been open a year. One TV station here has covered how pups bought at this Petland have died - some from Parvo - so why would you take an animal in there?? To have your pet be exposed to something that would kill it --- I'm so freaking mad right now!! |
Do you think it's a scam? I am having a hard time believing (unless I missed something) that Petland is EXCEPTING and not ACCEPTING. Is this for real? Honestly, I hope it is not. |

I am thinking about calling over there & posing as someone who wants to turn over a pet and see what they say |
:mad::thumbdown:thumbdown This is no longer a question!! I wish I could remove the question marks on my Thread Title! I just called Petland - pretended like I had a 2-yr old mix male cat that I needed to re-home because I was moving. I was told that I could just walk into Petland - no appt or anything & bring my cat in & they would find it a home!!:mad::thumbdown The guy told me they would charge at least $50 to someone wanting to adopt "my cat" and that it was better the Animal Rescue League who would put down my cat if it wasn't adopted within a week (which is not true I've been to the ARL) He assured me my cat would have a home - wish I would have asked how I could know where my cat would go or if I would be notified when he was placed Oh, this burns me up!! Would anyone else be willing to call a Petland in their area & find out if this is going on? |
We don't have a Petland in our area at all. I have heard that a lot of people are just leaving their pets because they are loosing their homes and can't afford to care for them or their new places won't accept animals....perhaps they will drop them off there instead? The kill shelters around us charge to drop off animals so they are just leaving them to fend for themselves. How horrible and sad to be able to do that to your pet. :( |
I contacted the local tv station that has been covering the horrid practices of Petland - including the sale of animals from puppymills - I asked them to examine their practices of taking in animals they have no information on. The other thing that hit me, is that Petland told me I could just walk in with my "cat" - no proof of vaccines, etc. So who is to say someone couldn't leave a sick animal and even further expo the pets they are trying to sell. I forgot to add to my post yesterday, that when I called Petland, I inquired if my "cat" would be placed in the same area that the other animals are. The employee asked if my cat got along with other cats - which I assured him my "cat" does. He then said, yes my cat might be housed with other pets they are offering for sale. I would like to see the local media investigate this practice also, as I wonder if they are violating any state laws..... |
