Playing or Fighting? I recently added a new Yorkie male pup who is 6 months old to our family. My 10 month is a female and a very docile, submissive dog. However, with the new boy, she roughhouses hard (she is 7 pounds and he is only 3). She makes a sound that I can't tell if it's growling or that sound puppies make when they play, but she likes to pull the little guy however she can around the room, even if it's by his hair. Sometimes she will kind of lay in wait for him and then pounce. It's not vicious, but it doesn't seem truly like play either. The puppy is not running away in fear, and knows how to assert himself, but I find I am always trying to get Sadie to leave him alone, and I don't want to discourage their socializing if that's what it is. They also fight constantly over toys, usually because Sadie won't let him hold onto any and, to his credit, he hangs on tight. I just don't want him to get hurt. |
My two is a bit like you describe too.....but once there is no yelping to say that hurt I beleive that is playing.....I will stop my girl sometimes because my little guy just once a little break every now and again.....most other times they are loving and giving kisses and sleeping together...so I wouldn't worry too much unless you see real viciousness....dogs do not play like us.....:) |

I have the same thing going on in my house I have two boy littermates they are not that different in weight but my Mike was the runt of the litter and my Zach sometimes takes advantage they play fight all the time which is fine until you hear a yelp usually they will be just as surprised as you are but that's when playtime ends Zach does hog all the toys even when he finishes with one ... if his brother goes to take it he'll run back and take it back sometimes I will have to intervene and put my little guy up on the couch where Zach can't get him with a chewy he wants There is a dominance scheme they need to live by but you have to watch sometimes to keep it in check |
Same exact thing I was just about to post the same exact question. We have Bella :littleang 1 1/2 years old ( 5.6 pounds). Very docile and submissive:p. Luigi :fallen:(tiny 2.2 pounds) came to live here last month. He is an aggressive little guy. They will start out playing then all of a sudden he is growling like a viscious beast :eek:. In the beginning Bella ran from it now she is fighting back. She also is possesive of the toys. I have even watched her take them one at a time and put them on the couch. Luigi can't get up on the couch he is so small. Like you I don't know if it is playing or fighting. The vet told me that Luigi will not stop his aggressivness until Bella draws blood :(. That is a little scary to me, although she has made Luigi yelp a few times it still continues. Oh but on the flip side they will lay down and sleep together and lick each other. I am confused. If anyone has any thoughts on this I would also appreciate it.:aimeeyork |
Ok, either you ladies are looking in my windows observing my girls, or it's a "yorkie thing";) It seems like my girls are always fighting/playing. There can be 10 toys on the floor, but they both have to have the same one. Lots of growling and rough housing going on here. But the next thing you know, they are curled up in the bed together. :confused: |
