Katie -- Blood in Urine & Poop I had such a scare last night. I went home after work and noticed that there was lightly colored blood on my babies wee wee pads. So I checked Codie and Katie out and there were no cuts or any signs of blood on them. I wasn't sure which one was bleeding. After that, I changed their pads and went about making dinner. A little while later, Katie peed and pooped on her pad and I noticed that there was blood in her urine AND her poop. So I called the emergency vet (open 24 hours, 7 days a week) and they said to monitor her all night and see if there's any more blood. As long as she is eating and drinking, I could wait to bring her in. I stayed up all night (I'm exhausted today) and there was no more blood. I am leaving work early today to take Katie to her regular vet because I want him to check her out. Could it be a urinary track infection? She was eating and drinking normally last night. Also, she was playing and acting fine all night. I hope it's nothing serious. :( |
Poor Katie! I hope your vet finds nothing serious. Please keep us posted. You are such a good Mommy staying up with her all night and monitoring her. |
you must be so scared ! I hope it's nothing - I wish I could offer you some help over this but just want to say GOOD LUCK and my thoughts are with Katie - PLEASE let us know what the vet says ....Hugs to little Katie and you too - |
I hope for the sake of you both that she will be fine! It's so scary when things like that happen to our precious little one's and there is nothing that you can do about it but wait it out. I'll be thinking about you guys, and please keep us updated on any news! Get well soon! |
Thanks everyone! I'll let you know what the vet says later on today. |
I've seen blood in the urine with a UTI before, but never in the poo. Sorry I can't be of more help. It sounds as though she feels good, so it can't be too bad. She's in good hands with you. ;) |
Oh I'm so sorry! How scary! I'm no help but I'm hoping Katie is okay. Please as soon as you're able when you get back from the vet. Thinking about you! |
Hi! What a good and responsible loving mom and owner you are! There is an illness, quite common in Yorkies that is called Cocidiosis. It will cause blood in the stool.... Was it mucos based? Cocidiosis is a protozoa that attatches itself to the wall of the intestine. It is easily treated/cured by a medication called Albon that they actually like to take! Usually for about 3-7 days. I am anxious to know the diagnosos/prognosis. Now, you need to get some rest. :) Rizzi |

I'm not sure how old your pups are, but coccidia is rare in pups older than 6 months old, unless they've been in an area where coccodia is present (such as a kennel). Most dogs have it in their system, but it only takes over when stress occurs, such as moving to a new home. Pups older than 6 months old usually have immune systems that can handle coccidia. Has your pup been anywhere lately where he might have picked up a germ or something? Hope you return with good news! |

Rizzi - are you familiar with Cocidiosis? I am going to loose my mind with TJ!!! He has such a sensitive tummy and it doesn't slow or stop him one bit. He will eat and chew on anything! I have been batteling with his poop problems from day one (I got him at the end of May - He is 7 months old now) The Vet thinks either he is eating something he shouldn't (he does all the time) and this is irritating his digestive track or he is allergic to something in the food! I have tried cut down any food that I think would bother his tummy, but I am not home during the day and I can't stop him from anything else (the only thing that he has left is poop, which he does eat and I am wondering if that is the cause now)...anyway, this is the cycle, normal poop, then really soft poop, then I hear girgiling noises in his rear (he won't eat anything at this time) and then poop that is very yellow, very think mucus like strings, weird log like poop in the middle of this mess (which I think is poop that was eaten eariler) and then the tiniest little thread of blood in the last bit of mucus. After this comes out, he is ready to eat! and no more noises, until the next time! When this was happening in the beginning (May and June), he was eating the wall and wood and lots of sugar treats. Now, I am very cautious and during July this really never happened, until August and here we are again - for the past 3 weeks, this has happened about every 4 days. He does eat his and Roxy's poop and other things around that he finds somehow! OR it still could be something I am feeding him or COULD IT BE THIS Cocidiosis??? What is Cocidiosis exactly? |
I hope she is okay! |
I hope Katie is okay. Keep us posted. |
Thinking about Katie, it sounds like she is feeling good, hopefully it is something minor. |
