Leaving the pups home, how long is too long? I normally work from home as I have my own business but this last week, I've been bombarded with meetings and conventions. I leave the house at 8am and come back close to 6pm. I leave my baby in a playpen big enough where I put a folded weewee pad on one side, his food, water on another and a comfortably padded corner with his blanket. I always leave the living room light on and 2 out of the 5 days I left him, I had left the TV on. I did it 5 days in a row and feel so bad about it. Is this leaving him too long in the day as I may need to do this again in a week or so. |
That is a long time but as long as he can relieve himself it should be ok. How young is your puppy??? Hopefully this will only be an occasional thing. My dogs are very spoiled as I've never had to work more than 5 hours at a time and now am home all the time. If we do go away we never leave them more than 6 hours without someone looking in on them |
Oh no. My puppy is 19 weeks old. This is def an occassional thing. Only happens about twice every 3 months. Work confrence. Other then that, I'm home with him all the time. |
Many working prople have yorkies. It sounds like your setup is fine. they sleep most of the day anyway. Just be sure to give him plenty of exercise when you are home so he gets tired out. |
Really? You think it's ok? When I go back, I normally walk him and then spend a lot of the night playing fetch with him. Some nights when Im tired, I just hold him and watch TV on the sofa ... |
It sounds to me like you are doing everything you can to keep your puppy comfortable and happy. If this is only a temporary thing, I wouldn't worry. All you can do is your best right? :) |
if you need a playmate or sitter, I'll be more than happy ^^. As Mimi is always lonely too at the house.. She is so full of energy and loves other dogs, but never has a friend to play with. =/ |

As long as your puppy is safe and has room to eat, sleep and go potty this shout be ok. Your puppy will probably start sleeping while away, and then when your back want to play and demand your attention. If your still not sure about the set up, then maybe a close friend or family member could come over and check on her/him and spend time with your puppy during the day. :aimeeyork |
It always bothers me when people leave them in small cage all day, but your set-up sound really nice. If you can just walk or exercise and play with him when you get home, I think that will fill his companionship needs. |
Yoon, thanks! Thats a great idea and I can do the same too if you ever want to leave Mimi with me. Charlie gets very bored at home, even with me around. So it sounds like my hours and set up is okay ... makes me feel a bit better ... |
