is this normal? so we bought prince his new exercise pen which is pretty big(takes up half my living room) and attachs to his crate so he can go in and nap whenever he pleases. hes really tiny & having him run around the whole house is scary so i thought the pen would be a great idea. well i put his toys in the pen and a blanket. i thought he would run around play with his toys and enjoy his new pen.. the problem is he doesnt want to play if nobody is playing with him. i am home with him all day bc i dont work so i do spend ALOT of time playing with him and training him but if i have other stuff to do around the house he wont play.. as soon as i get out the pen he goes to his bed and sulks:( i tried throwing a toy but he wont chase it.. he just lays in bed and watches me walk around the house. it really breaks my heart.. i want him to enjoy his pen even if im not there.. is this normal? do all puppies need someone to play with them? |
I don't think they need to play all the time. In fact, I have nap time every morning and afternoon for mine. They go to their crates and are in there for 30-90 minutes each day. usually they sleep because little guys get tired out and need that time to regroup. As long as your little guy isn't crying, I wouldn't worry at all. He's just resting until you are ready for him to play with you some more. |
i'm interested in the answer to this as well. i've noticed that my puppy (5 months old but i just got her two weeks ago) doesn't really play with her toys at all. she wants to be around me non-stop. however, i do have to work. she goes crazy when i'm not home. literally! she has chewed through a travel carrier which she was only in for 45 minutes while i was at the grocery store. when i leave her in the exercise pen while i'm at work, she gets pee and poop all over herself b/c she manages to tear up her potty pad. and she won't poop on the potty pad anyway while she's in the pen. she also tries to jump out of the exercise pen wearing herself out and pushing it accross the floor. i've tried playing music for her while i'm at work. that didn't do anything. she won't play with her toys. will she grow out of this??? it's tiring cleaning her and the floor up everyday when i get home. and i definately take her on long walks when i am home. |
thanks for the advice! i guess the rest couldnt hurt anyway.. he just looks so saddd and i feel bad for him. he would sleep on my lap if he could... i dont want him to feel ignored or punished if i am not paying attention to him, i would love to see him enterain himself but i guess ill just have to be the entertainment for now :) and no, he definitely doesnt cry he just sulks til he falls asleep |
