Bonjour from Brittany, France I have a large breed Yorkshire Terrier ...Sam. Friends from the UK brought over some UK goodies (we live in Brittany, France) amongst which were a couple of boxes of Weetabix Minis ! Not sure if you have Weetabix in the USA. These are even nicer as they are Chocolate Crisp and Sam really loves them. I'm pretty careful with this little guy's diet (who will be 12 next month). We have a complete dry food here called Royal Canin and they do a special one for Yorkies ... and because like me, he is a little tubby, he has the Light version. Sometimes he has the dry food for his lunch and evening meal, and a couple of times a week he will have a roast dinner, or tuna with carrots .... generally I leave out biscuit with these meals and he has rice. Sorry to be so long winded ! Just wonder if it is OK to give him weetabix as a snack or as a meal. Also the subject of what veggies and fruit are OK for Yorkies. I am always surprised at what he does like to eat .... like brussel sprouts, the flower heads of broccoli, peas, potatoes and of course, carrots, providing all these are cut up very small indeed and are cooked quite soft .. although carrots he will eat at any time. Also didn't know until recently that pork (cooked very well ) is OK for dogs. Sam loves it and it is the only meat here in France which is not too expensive!) You wouldn't believe the price of chicken or turkey ! Look forward to your replies. A bientot ! Happy day to you. |
welcome!!!!anything with chocolate is toxic to dogs |
Welcome to YT!!! |
I have never heard of Weetabix . I wasn't sure if you were saying yor friend brought them for Sam ( and they were a dog type treat) or if she brought them for you ( a human treat:) ) If it's for you , I wouldn't give them to Sam because of the Chocolate which is toxic to dogs. If they are a dog treat then I would hope the chocolate was just a 'flavoring' that was O.K. for dogs and not real chocolate. The only human treat type foods mine get are raw carrots ,chicken , and sometimes yogurt and apples. I haven't tried much else because I wasn't sure for a long time what was O.K. for them to have. I know Green beans are O.K. but I think the frozen ( thawed ) non cooked kind are best. :D welcome to YT |
Hi there and welcome to YT ! I have never heard of Weetabix .... But, if there is Chocolate in them then it can be toxic to dogs. Do not feed anything with chocolate . |

Bonjour, bienvenue à YorkieTalk! S'il vous plaît envoyer des photos de votre Yorkie! Fruits and veggies, except a few, are perfectly okay to give to dogs! Mine personally loooovve apples and bananas. :D Here is a post with what foods are okay and not okay to give to dogs. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...oods-dogs.html Oh, and pork is very fatty and is not normally recommended for Yorkies. |

Welcome to yorkie tak! :D |
Hi welcome to Yorkietalk, when I was growing up there use to be chocolate flavored dog treats, and we gave them to our dogs without any problems, but since then, they have found that chocolate contains an ingredient called theobromine that effects the center nervous system, and can be very harmful, especially if dark chocolate is used, so most of the chocolate looking treats now contain carob, which has no chocolate. Haven't heard about Weetabix Minis, so I can't say whether they are good or not. I'm not a big believer in treats, and usually just give Joey hard chewy sticks as treats. He also loves frozen green beans, and acts like those are a great treat. The bad thing about Yorkies, and other small breeds is that they are prone to pancreatitis, and any foods that are high in fat can bring this on, that's why pork is considered a no no by some. |
welcome :):):):):) |
