Anrique My dog Anrique is only 6 weeks old Im not getting her until this afternoon so I'll post a picture later.:aimeeyork |
Oh no...please don't get him this afternoon.... 6 weeks is WAY to early for yorkies to leave their mother. They should be 10-12 weeks and your breeder should know that. Please reconsider. |
But the vet said it was ok to!:aimeeyork |
I picked up my little morkie Gucci at 6 weeks and wouldn't recommend getting him that early. We were lucky, but most little guys need that extra nurturing time. We had to force feed him for several weeks as well and syringe water into him quite often. While the mother doesn't want them feeding when they have teeth, it doesn't mean that they know how to eat puppy food. I'd wait if possible. Kathy |
I agree. It is way too early no matter what the vet said. Yorkies aren't like other dogs. I got Adie when she was 7 weeks old and almost lost her! She got really sick and had to go the the emergency vet. I spent close to $3000.00 on her medical bills so unless you can afford that kind of money right off the bat PLEASE reconsider. I got Skeeter when he was 12 weeks old and the difference was like day and night! |

I'm also surprised that a vet would say it is okay for a yorkie to be away from it's mother that young. I may want to find another vet also. Who knows what else he'd "okay" should he have to provide perscriptions, etc. I like going to vets who are familiar with the breed(unless it's an emergency of course). And Mscat is right...no reputable breeder who truly loves the breed and want the most healthiest litters(physically & psychologically), would not release a puppy that young.:( |
I know that you want her as soon as possible ... but it's not in the puppy's interest OR yours to separate her so young She's going to be a handful ..... she's going to cry and cry for you and have a whole load of stomach issue most likely wait two more weeks if you can.... |
I found this At What Age Can a Puppy Be Taken From its Mother? - Dogland (UK) Here in the UK its generally 8 weeks when a puppy can be taken from its mother. I know you really want her but best double check with the vet. |
In most states there are laws regarding the age a puppy can be taken from it's mother. In Florida the law is 8 weeks old. At the very least, please wait until your puppy is a couple more weeks or more old, especially since it is a small breed. |
It doesn't look like our OP is going to respond to us so I'm betting she went ahead and got that puppy. I wish her and the puppy the best of luck. Hopefully she will at least heed our warnings and watch the little one closely for all the things that can go wrong. Sigh.:cry8: |
If she did, the only thing for anyone to do now is to support her with what ever she needs without judgement. |
I agree. But...she really needs to find a vet a little more familiar with the breed. Way too early. Way too small.:( |
I agree completely but she will still need the expertise if everyone here. I know I still do and welcome all the advise I get. |
I didn\'t mean to insinuate that I was not going to support her if she does come back. I hope she does and I will certainly help whenever I can. I don\'t know what I would have done without YT when Adie was so sick. No one chastised me and I appreciated that very much. Edith if you are reading any of these messages please feel free to pm one of us with questions. You don\'t have to post them here. We care! |
