Both girls are getting spayed (sp) Hello! I took both my babies to get spayed today. Anybody have any post surgery tips? |
I got my male and female spayed and neutered on the same day also. I liked it because they had the same down time. Try to keep them calm and from jumping. I didnt let mine climb steps for a few days. Dont bathe for 2 weeks. Are you going to get pain meds? If your vet doesnt give them to you I would ask for them |
Lot of people get those baby onesies so that their dogs can lick the incision, and they make the cutest pictures! Best of luck with the surgery! |
Where can I get the onsies? |

Molly hated her collar but it was the only way to stop her licking the wound. The hardest part was trying to keep her quiet for 2 weeks....no chance!! but she survived ok and you cant even see where the incision was now. |
Some people say they put the onesie on backwards with the snaps in the back and just stick the tail out between the snaps. I think this makes it harder for them to get to their wound, but I didn't read about them until after Joey was neutered, so I never got to try it. I just love the pictures though, and double pictures would be even better. :D Depending on the size of your dogs, I think newborn and preemie are the most popular sizes. Remember, no baths for a couple of weeks! |
Gypsy is 5.2 pounds and Prissy is 4.8. They are so sweet. I am going to find some premie onesies. Thanks so much for all of your help. I am curious about how they are going to do with this "being calm" thingy. . . Should be interesting. Hope they aren't too smelly after going that long without a bath! |
I got Lola spayed last tuesday. She was out of it until saturday. I did get pain meds for her and was home on vacation taking care of her. She wants me to hold her in all the time a baby her. I did of course..She has had 2 litter and was swollen when he preformed her hystorectomy. Try and not worry, everything will be fine and she did not lick her stiches..We will have them removed next monday...Good luck to you... |

Daisy Mae was spayed last week. I used DAP (Dog Apeasing Phermone) It's a spray that you can pick up either online or at a pet store. It is a phermone that the nursing mother releases when feeding her pups. It naturally calms the pup. Follow the direction carefully. Also make sure that the brand you get doesn't contain mostly alcohol. Stuff really works. Also works when they are nervous in the car. ~Kathy:animal-pa |
My Sophie was spayed on December 23rd and now fully healed and can resume regular doggy activities. I must say I have an amazing Vet and her staff - they love my dog as much as I do. I had Sophie spayed while I was boarding her for the holidays with the confidence that the Vet staff would take excellent care of her. I called them daily and they called me the minute she was out of surgery. My advice is if you stair steps carry the puppies up the stairs. Also I got baby wipes and used them to give her a sponge bath (sort of). I helped her feel fresh (I think) and sure made her smell all baby soft. |
Are they home yet, hope everything went OK. |
I hope everything went well for your two as well. I need to get Suzi spayed soon. My brother and his family have several dogs and none of them are fixed. They have a rat terrier that has has so many litters... It makes me quite angery at them for being such irresponible owners. This dog is only about 8 lbs too. It is not right for her to just keep having litter one after the other... To me that is cruel.. and it is not much better then a back yard breeder. Shame on them .. |
Day one Down! Well, we all made it through the first day! The girls are doing great, resting and not licking their stiches. However, my husband is the real hero. He hear them at 5 a.m. even before I did and got up to comfort them! |
