Yeah, we were thinking a chi-yorkie also. Thanks for the compliments. I love him soooo much! He has become such an important part of our family since I got him on Christmas day. DH is just a little upset because he feels like he was "scammed". We're still waiting on pics of the parents, which I'll post when I get them. He knew I've always wanted a Yorkie and wanted to really surprise me...which he did! I told him it doesn't matter because we both love Toby, and so do the kids. I would never dream of giving him up! I just want to know exactly what breed(s) he is so I can research any health problems that may come up. Thanks for all of your input. :D

In regards to CKC not being as reliable as AKC, I do not believe that to be true. I don't think that any of the registries are very reliable anymore. I have seen a lot of pups that are AKC registered that are very obviously mixed with something somewhere in their lines. It's sad that seeing AKC papers don't really mean that much anymore. It's all in the honesty of the breeder. I have seen some GORGEOUS ACA and CKC pups, and some horrible looking AKC pups (and the other way around of course). That is why it is so important to find an honest breeder that you can trust and not purchase on impulse. Of course, you will love him not matter what he is :) so all that is water under the bridge. However, I would advise others that are wanting to purchase from that breeder that the pups are not purebred at all. I don't know if you contact CKC and let them know, if they would act on it at all.
I agree here with MindieRose...He does look like a chi-yorkie, but if you love him enough, papers won't change your mind. My yorkie isn't registered in my name, but I don't really care, b/c he's not going any where. He's my baby.:animal-pa

There are more than one DNA tests that can be done. You are referring to parentage of the dog which would require a DNA sample from both the dam and sire in addition to the puppy to determine if that pair are the parents. I was referring to DNA of different breeds identification. It is a process of ruling out or including breeds in a dogs DNA which is breed specific. There are several services offered on line that require a swab of the dogs mouth and they can determine what breed DNA is found in the breed. Dog DNA Test Doggie DNA Testing and Mixed Breed Canine DNA Testing For Dogs - Dog-DNA.com

It doesn't surprise me that this can be done. Wrongly convicted people have been let out of jail with DNA testing so it would only make sense to me that someone would be offering this service. The many articles about this technology all refer to the ability to deter mine with just one sample. Now if you want to determine if specific dogs are the parents of that puppy then you would need samples from all three as in a question of parentage with an accidental breeding between multiple males.

My vet advised me that the swab is not very accurate! She said the blood test is.

I am not an expert, but when I first looked at you pictures, I saw Chiwhawa (sp). Wat an awesome present. He will be a sweetie!

My yorkie looks similar to yours and I was also told she was full yorkie. I asked the vet and she told me the coloring can be so different on yorkies and she was pretty sure that my baby is a full yorkie. Mine also has the longer snout and she doesn't have as much brown around her nose as most yorkie puppies do. She has it on the side but not all around her nose. Regardless of her faults, lol, we love her anyway! We got ours for very cheap and I was just glad that she was healthy!

Didn't I read that you had one of your dogs DNA tested to find out what was in his breeding? Did they have to take blood from the SIR AND DAME to determine the genetic background? I would like to clarify my answer to the OP as I believe we are talking about 2 different tests. The other poster stated that it can only be done to determine parentage but I am still under the impression that it can be done to determine the other as well. :)

It is only done to determine breed. That is a blood test...not sure about any others.

There is a swab, but I have been told it does not identify as many breeds and is not as accurate.

your puppy looks like a yorkie mix...
not sure what the other mix is
but if a german sheppard and a yorkie were to ever create a baby it might look close to that

or a chiwawa (excuse my spelling) and a yorkie

but your pup is still adorable! and you'll love him no matter what. but if the breeder told your husband that he was a full yorkie then i should question the breeder otherwise and preceed with the dna breed test.
