what type of crate to get we are getting another yorkie very soon, our first one never took to a crate to "nest" or use as a "den". I want to be able to provide this option to our second little one but don't know the best type to get. does anyone have any suggestions. |
Depends really what u want the crate for? I have a HUGE crate for bailey inside has a pee pad, his bed where he can go to sleep and then space for him to play with some toys. I leave bailey in his crate when i leave the house and put him in it when i go to bed. If u just want it as a den then get a small one, big enough for him to stand up and turn around in. Good luck with finding your new little yorkie :) xx |
I prefer the wire crates with a cover/blanket on top. However, if you want to use it as a potty training tool, it needs to be small - only big enough for him to stand up, turn around, and lay down. |
I personally like xpens, as you don't want to be leaving them in a crate for more than 1 hour for every month they are. At least with an xpen they have room to play(which they need to be able to do when they're pups) and food, pee pads, water and toys that they can play with |
Sorry for butting in. I bought a plastic gate pen. It has 4 walls, one of them with a door. There's no floor or ceilling. I put wee wee pads, her bed, food bowls and toys in there. She sleeps there and is in there while I'm at work. Here is a picture, I got it on amazon. Delivery was free. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...IMG_2689-1.jpg |
I haqve not ever used a crate for Suzi... She has learned to use her pads for both poo and peeing on. But, it did take several months. :aimeeyork |

x-pens are great but i have a huge crate for bailey and he does fine in it, its kinda like an x-pen its really big has his bed in it a pee pad and room for him to play. He mostly goes to sleep when i am out anyway hehe. I sometimes leave him for up to 4hours in the crate and he seems care free. Its in my bedroom and he also goes in it of a night too :) |

thanks, we have the x-pen right now for our little guy. He never took to the crate but was perfect in his pen. He is 7 months old now and has only had one accident in it, we don't use it that much anymore because he seems to be house broken. I guess we'll use it for the newest puppy. I hope our new little one will be as easy to house break. |
