Squirrels driving him crazy! Snoopy just goes crazy over the squirrels in our backyard. He tenses up and makes a high pitched whine if he sees one. Sometimes we let him out to bark at them, and he calms back down if they run away. But he can't stay outside, and he goes nuts if we don't let him out. So mommy has to 'make the squirrels go away' (close the blinds...) My question is this: should I try to calm him down? close the blinds? let him go out to chase them away over and over? let him bark at them through the glass? My feeling is to let him out for a little while, then close the blinds if the squirrels are still hanging out. He's my first dog, so I really have no idea. |
We had the same problem with Finnigan. We didn't let him outside until he stopped whining and running back and forth in front of the window. His grandma (my mom) also got him a stuffed squirrel and he would grab that and "kill it" when he saw the squirrels outside. |

Aww I dont have any advice for you but Sam wants to come over! He loves loves loves loves squirrels!!! Sam said to tell Snoopy that those squirrels are WIMPS and he can take'em. Sam will come over and show Snoopy how to terrorize them!!!:p |
Oh, by the way I saw the cutest shirt at Target last night, but it wasn't in Finnigan's size. It said, "Squirrels can't be trusted" under a picture of a squirrel. It was so cute! |

Scooter goes crazy when the squirrels come out too. He likes to sneak up on them so he lightly scratches on the corner of the door and asks permission to go out. Once you open the door, he creeps out and tries to surprise the squirrel. The squirrels in our back yard taunt him by coming up close to the back door and running a few feet up a tree just out of reach. If you train your baby to quietly ask to be let out, I think all your problems will be solved. I have blinds I can close so he cannot see them anymore and it doesnt work. He has figured out a way to get between the blinds and the window (I have full length windows) and still see out. Training works better. Good luck. |

That's so funny! Just today there were squirrels coming up to my brother's glass door and the girls are here and they were going crazy! They wouldn't stop whining! |
I have no advice , but think that is pretty cute ! I bet you will be able to train him to calm down before he gets let outside, then he can chase those Squirrels away! ;) I just would be a little concerned if one of them had babies somewhere , or had Rabies.... Cause wouldn't they become aggressive then? :aimeeyork |

I am sorry, but I don't have any advice either.....but Mojo goes crazy over birds and flies! If he sees a bird outside, he will bark and grrrrrrrowl at it because they are in HIS yard! LilyGrace is the same w/ crows and squirrels....when we first got her, she would run from tree to tree after them...we have been working w/ her off leash....these little babies.....:love-hug1 |
