Do yorkies need to wear clothes inside? I'm new to small dogs. My new baby doesn't seem cold inside, but I want him comfortable. Are clothes needed inside? Any advice? Simon's Mom |
No clothes for my Bailey - she does just fine. I do, however, (per Drs. advice) put on a coat when we go outside. Welcome to YT!!! :) |
Good question. You are in the midwest where it does stay a bit cooler (like Iowa). I have three Yorkies. My smallest, Blair, usually has some sort of shirt on (or jammies) because we keep a cooler home (65 degrees) and her hair is thinner than the other two and she is smaller than the other two. She's very active but I worry about her more because she seems so much more fragile. She even burrows under the covers at night, with her jammies on. (plus, for my pleasure of her wearing jammies as she looks so darn cute!) Hope this helps! I'm sure others will chime in! |
I keep my house warm and a fire is usually going in the familyroom all winter long so she doesn't really need them inside but I do dress her up sometimes. At night I do put her in pj's because she doesn't sleep with us and I think she is snugglier that way  But when we go out I always put a sweater/coat on her. |
we don't pump up the heat real high so Romeo needs to wear at least a t-shirt. i feel his paws and ears to see if they are cold and then i go from there. |
Rarely- pretty much never. I don't remember the last time they had clothes on. ETA: Oops, I thought your title was asking if our yorkies wore clothing. |
We keep the house @ 65 degrees. Usually during the day they're o.k. I check their ears and paws and if they seem cool I do put a tee shirt or Jammies on them on cold nights. When I take them out I always have a jacket or sweater on the Yorkie. Baron is only 7 pounds. My Papillion, Sammy is a teapot @ 15 pounds and does have more hair and insolation than Baron!! Hope this helps... :aimeeyork:D |
a good rule of thumb is... if you are cold.. chances are they are too. |

I check Pao's ears and paws to see how cold it is. At night, I usually put him in a tee and when it gets colder a pajama. He doesn't like to sleep under my blanket and basically just sleeps anywhere he likes but under the blanket so it can be cold in the middle of the night. I just dress him up so that I know he won't feel cold at night. |
Normally our 4 pound yorkie is fine in the house. She initially hated wearing clothes but now she likes wearing them a lot more and not to boot it's incredibly cute. |

Yorkies are cold if you are cold.... that is probably the best answer I can give. They don't have an "undercoat" like some dogs do. A sweater or coat is probably best for going outside in the winter. We turn the heat down at night and my feet get cold, so we put pajamas/nightshirts on them. They LOVE to wear them...... Seymour will come running and try to poke his head in his pajamas before I am ready for him! ....... just remember.... this also applies in the summer.... with no undercoat to protect, they get warm quickly, too! |
