Bill Hello and Thanks for the invitation! My Yorkie's name is Spencer and he is 5 1/2 months old. I will post a picture at a later date. He has taken to us very well. He is inside potty trained and he sits, lies down, fetches(but won't give up object) and comes when called. The main problem is that when I try to correct him with a no or stop he gets very sassy. He starts barking at me , jumping and even biting very hard. He mostly does that when my wife is close by. Can anyone give me some ideas. Thanks Again! |
:welcome4: :yorkietal Welcome to you and Spencer :yorkietal :welcome4: Welcome - so happy that you joined our growing family of yorkie lovers. It sounds like Spencer is a very smart little boy. The jumping, biting, and barking can stem from any number of things. He is still just a pup and he may just want to play, or he could be jealous of your wife, or of you. I have found that a few minutes in time out works great with one that is seeking attention. |
Bill Thanks for your reply. How would I put Spencer in time out for a few minutes? |

Put some coins in a can, and when he acts out shake the can. The noise usually stops them from what their doing. It always worked for me. Good luck. |
Hi :wavey: and welcome to YT!!! I've had success with time outs and using the soda can half-filled with pennies. |

:welcome4: to YT! I know you will find good advice here.:animal-pa |
My Bailey doesn't like being picked up - she's quite independent. In the beginning, she'd run when I bent over to pick her up. So, I made it a point to bend over to pet and release (no pick up). Then, to train her to pick up - I said "stop" very firmly, she'd freeze, then I picked her up - quickly followed by praise and a treat. After a month of treats, I began to lessen them until no more treats for the pick up. Hmmm - your issue is that you get bad behavior when you try to correct. I'm no expert -but I am a good pack leader. Along with praise and treats for good behavior - I believe in firmness when there is bad behavior - therefore, I wouldn't hesitate in physically pinning the dog, simultaneously say "no" along with direct eye contact. You're the boss - don't let the puppy get the last word. Good luck!!! |
Welcome to YT. Nice to see another New Englander. Id give you some advice...but i'm working on the same thing with my 7 month old furbaby. |
He's a bit too smart for his own good ... You can correct both of those problems by taking away the object and saying No Bark! and leaving No talking to him no other correction ... just no attention He'll get the point very quickly |
