I am not sure about the bow size. I have a 5 month old whose hair is still growing in, on her I use the little rubber bands that you get in the kids' hair section at the dollar store. On my adult(Piper), I buy the little cloth looking ones in the kids section--they have some cute ones and you can get 40 for around 3$. I like these bc they don't seem to break off her hair. As soon as my pups(Leah) hair is long enough, I will use those on her too. For grooming, I use a comb w/rotating pins(it helps with any mats/tangles, so it doesn't pull too bad)--I bought a bamboo one at petsmart Bamboo Rotating Medium/Coarse Tooth Comb - Grooming - Dog - PetSmart
I shampoo them with dark beauty or black pearl--they are both dark and these shampoos make their hair soft, so I don't use a conditioner. When I brush them I will spray on a detangler/leave in conditioner(I like infusium)--it makes them soft and helps with tangles. I will bathe at least once a week--twice if needed and brush them out at least every other day--if I have time I do it daily(Piper is show-cut, so if I go more then 2 days-she will mat pretty bad). I went to Sally's Beauty supply and bought a peanut wahl clipper--I will shave her ear tips, inside corner her eyes(where they tear at), her bootie, bottoms of the feet, and her tummy as needed(I shave her from her armpits to her vaginal area--being careful to not clip her skirt, it's easier to comb bc bellies seem to mat more-I figured this out after her spay) plus her skirt hides how short her belly really is. Be careful if you only use a brush, I made that mistake--I didn't realize all the mats my girl had until I tried to take the comb thru her. I also start combing at the back end and work my way front. Piper will literally lay in my lap and go to sleep as I am shaving/combing her, I do one side, flip her over and do the other--my Grandma could not believe how well behaved she was. Now is the time to train them to let you do the grooming--my new baby is still a stinker when I want to comb/shave/clip nails-but we are working on it. Good luck and congrats on your baby!!!! |
