Hot rocks and soft baby paws Am I a kook or what? This makes sense to me, but maybe not. It's hot here, often in the 90s. It's not as hot as Oklahoma where we came from, but it's still pretty hot. The house is on thin rocky soil that won't even grow grass and there's a lot of area that's just plain gravelly. My Yorkie is only 15 weeks old and her paws are tiny and soft and tender. So when the rocks and cement are hot, I carry her to the grass. I'm I creating a little monster that wants to be carried everywhere or am I protecting her? |
i think your protecting her....she shouldnt be walking on hot ground |
Didn't you know, yorkies are supposed to be carried everywhere...! But, seriously, you're doing the right thing - if it would hurt your feet it would probably hurt hers. Dana |
Absolutely! I carry mine off the deck when the hot sun is on it. I go barefoot a lot, and it burns me, and I hurry like hell to get off it. So, it has to burn their little paws. Your doing the right thing! So, your spoiling her a bit, she will love it! LOL Pat |
Thanks! Didn't want to hurt her doggy dignity! Thank you for your advice and encouragement. All the dogs I've had for the last 30 years have been medium to large and I've NEVER had one this small. So I'm not really sure where the line is between ridiculous spoiling and just fun for both of us spoiling. I figure she'll probably take herself seriously as a dog who wants to do dog things, but to me she'll probably always look and seem like a funny little baby. But I don't want to hurt her little doggy dignity (when she gets old enough to have some). |
I think it is written somewhere in the Great Yorkie Bible that they must be carried. I carry my little gal out to the grass only so she won't become distracted and forget what we are going out there to do. Most yorkies will let you know if they don't want to be carried so I wouldn't worry about creating a monster. |
You are absolutely doing the right thing! No worries |
Need a copy of this "Great Yorkie Bible" or is this forum it? I need to get a copy of the Great Yorkie Bible. It's clear I don't understand all the rules. OK, Yorkies get carried when it's hot. What about when it's cold and snowy. What do we do about going out? We used to have a big fuzzy dog that would "snow swim" scooting through the snow and getting ice balls dangling from the hair on his tummy. Is my baby going to get ice balls just walking around because she's so small? It doesn't look like most of the coats cover the tummy very well. So much to learn! |
