advice from those with multiples :confused:I have read so many articles on adding new members to a "pack" that my head is spinning and everyone has a different opinion. But I really want to do this right..so I am back to ask the experts..... !! We have a male that is 10 months old and a female that is 8 months old. Both have been neutered. And we are ready to add a third. Would it be easier to add another male or would a female be easier or does it even make a difference?? We realize that there will be a period of adjustment but the very last thing I want to do is add a new one and someone not get along!! I know that there are no guarantees but I thought that those of you with 3 or more might have some words of wisdom. p/s... 4 is my goal...:0) |
Hi Vicki...I have 2 boys and 3 girls...I havent' had any trouble with adding more additions....My oldest seemed to have gotten used to all his new playmate:D...btw, I have boy, girl, boy, girl, girl:p Mary Jackson:aimeeyork Gracie:aimeeyork Tucker:aimeeyork Rosey:aimeeyork Abigayle:aimeeyork |
I have 4 girls...3 spayed...1 will be soon. The only advice I can offer is to make sure that everyone is on neutral ground when the new dog is introduced. Keep them on neutral ground as long as possible, out at a park...long walk...having them all walking together...then when it is time to go home, everyone goes in the house together and nothing seems like an invasion by a newbie. It worked 3 times for me. Mine have all bonded very nicely. Be sure your attention is not all focused on 1... Since I have all girls, I am not sure whether a adding a boy or a girl makes the most sense. Good Luck. I'll be watching for your upcoming news! |
I would get Another Male & Another female to make it even. |
All I can say is my males fight my females do not |
I have Addison, she is 2 and we added Brady about 8 months ago? He just turned 1. And a few days ago we added Winnie, he is 3 years old and intact. We will be getting him neutered soon but so far so good. We did not do the neutral territory, I would have liked to but it was 4:30 am when we got him home:rolleyes:. So far so good, everyone gets along very well! We could not be more happy! |
This sounds dumb on my part but I always just fall in love with the dog first, BOY OR GIRL. It just worked out that I have 4 boys and one girl. They are such a great pack. They eat together and sleep and play together. No agressions...The only time was when my female came into heat the boys went thru tiffs and marking issues. But I have had my female spayed. Other than that they are my best friends in my life that I could ever ask for... |
I have a 12 year old female pom and then added 3 female yorkies at different times. The 2 younger yorkies to pick on my 3 1/2 year old yorkie who is very laid back, but nothing too bad. They also all snuggle together. |
I would suggest get the opposite sex of your more dominate dog. I have 2 males and 2 females ,with my first female being dominate she had no problem when I brought the new boy in the home but got a little feisty with the new female. |
Well, I had 1 yorkie male 13 and 1 silky female 8. This past April we added a male yorkie 9 months. My female wasn't thrilled, but tolerated him. About a month ago I added another male, age unknown, but probably 8-10. Again, my female wasn't thrilled. In general, they all get along and sleep in our bed at night. I didn't even think about the sex of the dog when I rescued. I just click with the dog itself! Not sure if that helped, it's just my experience. |
I just started fostering and the dogs seem to adjust to any new dog that comes in. Even if they are intact. I havent had problems. |
