Will be getting Gucc tomorrow -advice? I am getting Gucc tomorrow and I am getting ready for his arrival tomorrow. I bought him for my 7 year old daughter....she does not know yet....SURPRISE!:) Anyway, couple of questions: As soon As I get him from the owner that sold him, are there particualr paperworks I have to look out for and ask for? He said Gucc is 6 months old and very healthy - he's bringing him here from Utah via plane and he will get a check prior to boarding the plane so that might be a good thing for me.....should i make a deed of sale? Anything else special I need to do (adoption papers in my name?) Is it okay for my daughter to keep on holding her? Will too much handling harm our new baby? I already developed a plan for potty training for him - whew...big relief Any particular type or brand of grooming products best for him? Any insight on pet insurances? Any way I can get really cute clothes for him that is not overpriced like to pet stores I go to? second hand okay? (just wondering about ticks and fleas from second hand clothes) Is there a best quality harness brand I should get? Once a week bathing good? I live in Vegas, it's cold right now though.:animal-pa I am so excited and would like to be the best mom ever for our new addition - any piece of advice will be very much appreciated..... thank you :animal-pa |
CONGRATS!!!!!!!! How exciting for you and your daughter! The breeder should provide you w/ registration info. (is he AKC?) and he should come with a health contract - did the breeder already talk about that? My breeder also had a "sale" form that we both signed. As far as harnesses, you want to get a "step-in" harness, which doesn't come near the neck at *all* (yorkies are prone to tracheal collapse, so you never want to use the collar for leashing). I wouldn't bathe more than once a week or the skin will dry out - I bathe my guys about once every 2 weeks. Oatmeal shampoos are nice; just anything that is not too harsh. As far as pet ins. - it can be very smart to get it if you would not be able to afford an emergency or a surgery; in other words, a very expensive incident. If you would be able to afford a very expensive event (2-5,000 $), then they say don't get insurance. You should have Nutrical at home - it is a vitamin paste that tastes good and is available at Petsmart/Petco. It is always great for sick dogs - but it is also good for new puppies who are under stress and may be under-eating. Also, since yorkie puppies are so prone to hypoglycemia, you can give it immediately if they seem shaky/weak *at all*. When I first got Marcel, who was a tiny, I gave him Nutrical for the 1st two weeks before he went to bed and 1st thing in the morning - just to help keep his blood sugar up and to give him some extra vitamins during his transition. So, GOOD LUCK! There is a wealth of info here at YT - so take a look around and ask more questions if you have them. :) |
Congrats on your new baby!!! With my daughters (admittedly they are younger than yours) I made them sit on the floor until the puppy approached them and then they could stroke her.....I didn't (and still don't) let them try to pick her up - even very gentle careful children can have accidents and these little ones can be injured sooo easily. I also made sure that the kids knew that Twinkle was not to be disturbed when she's in her crate as that's her own personal space. With these few rules it's worked out great for us so I wish you lots of luck xxx xx |
Hope your little pup settles in quickly..your daughter will be thrilled. I have knitted 3 coats for Molly as she seems to prefer the fact that wool had a lot of 'give' in it. Got the pattern off ebay and it doesnt take much wool, and i can knit one in a week during the evenings while i watch the tele! I had never knitted anything before so am quite proud of my results!! :) |
Thank you! Thank you for the pieces of advice you guys posted - very helpful!!!! 6 more hours until his arrival.... wish me luck!!!! Please feel free to post more here so other new moms/dads like me will be able to transition to thisnew environment in no time! Thank you again! I AM SO EXCITED.....:) |
I put our babies cage on a table right next to the bed. They seem to settle right down if they can see you! If you can get a blanket or toy with the litter mates smell on it that helps a lot also. I would not bath your pup for a few days... let them settle in first. Sadie our puppy threw up a bit at first. She was very scared and needed time to get used to us. She was shy and would hug the wall when she walked... but she warmed up to us by the second night (48 hours) Then she was tearing around like a nut barking and running!!! Give your puppy time. Have your daughter sit ON THE FLOOR when holding the pup. Puppies fall of couches, chairs, laps. It happens very very fast! Your daughter is young so watch her and make sure she knows the rules! (Make rules) Make sure you give the puppy lots of sleep time. They need to rest a lot. Short play times are about all they can handle when they are very young. Have fun with your new pup!!! Can't wait to see pics! |
