ears Hey there! That is crazy that I saw this forum b/c I was just getting ready to ask if anyone else yorkie's ears lay down like mine does? I just assumed it was b/c he is a big yorkie...a whopping 16.4 lbs.:animal-pa Does anyone know? |

I shaved Missy's when she was 8 or 9 weeks old. It was easy. I just bought a little Wahl brand beard and moustache trimmer and had my husband hold her for me. The tricky part was trimming with the scissors afterwards to make the shape nice around the edge of the ears. I've also seen posts on here about taping their ears up. You may want to do a search on that. |
flopping ears i have a 7 weeks old yorkie, his ear arent going up. I was wondering if there are any ways to help them go up. his mom had floppy ears but his dads ear were up & beautiful. help me |
1 Attachment(s) You can try to tape the ears... I did for Sadie and her ears stayed up for a while but they kept flopping. I finally gave up and her ears are floppy but we think she looks cute that way! |

Juicy's ears are down, I've shaved them, and tapped them I think they just want to stay down and I've learned to love them their so cute. Both her parents had ears that go up and same with her brother and sister. :) |
My baby boy Jack's ears I think are too big to stay up. I was looking at them this morning and there is just no way his ears would stay up. Plus, I think he's cutter with big floppy ears. I never did get to meet his parents b/c I bought him off of someone that already purchased him from the parents. So I don't know if his parents' ears stand up or if they are too big to stand up. Oh well, I wouldn't trade Jack's appearance for anything even if his ears are suppose to stand up.:animal-pa |
Floppy Ears I feel the same way SuzieQ! My Dallas is soooo adorable with the flop! I can't wait until he's older to see his final color too! :animal36 |

Nature has it! 2 Attachment(s) Larkin has floppy ears and my boy Diesel has erect ears. They had puppies that are now 13 weeks old and none of them have erect ears. One or two looked like they were going to stand, but then they went back to being floppy. I asked my vet at one of their shot visits and he said that it is just genetics whether or not their ears stand up. I just went with nature and didn't help any of mine stand up. I love 'em just the way they are!! :aimeeyork |
I wait till Molly is sleepy and relaxed and then have a quick trim of anywhere that needs doing. It means that i dont have to have anymore trips to the groomer, which molly hated anyway. |
Brookef18 What a cutie Sadie is. Absolutely love her little face and her floppy ears. Just want to hug her.:luvu: ---------------------------------:yorkiesar-------------------------------- Patty:wavey: and Bella:aimeeyork |
Some Yorkies ears stick up and some don't If you want them up yoou can help by cutting the hair on the ears which weigh down the ears I'm not a fan of taping ears It's smacks of docking and that scares me |
2 Attachment(s) 'My Lady'~~I swear I didn't even notice she had floppy ears!!!I Saved her from the local pound:D |
This might sound crazy, but when I was growing up my family had three miniature schnauzers, all at different times. My mom always bought puppies who didn't have their ears cropped, so the puppies always started out with hilariously cute big floppy ears. My parents still wanted the ears to stand up like a "normal" schnauzer's would though, so they constantly massaged the dogs' ears into the up position, whenever the dog was cuddling with them. Like, they would put a thumb inside the ear, and cup their index finger in a "U" shape around the back of the ear, and run this up each ear, pulling and massaging just slightly. All three of the long-eared schnauzers they did this to had both ears that stood up straight. Whenever they took them out for walks in public, people would grin and comment they they had the cutest looking dogs - looked like they were half rabbit with those big ears. I don't know if this technique could work with yorkies, but I don't see why not... Either as a supplement to taping, or instead of taping. Just an idea anyhow. Good luck with the ears :-) Lauren & Nikko |
Tyke's ears are floppy. I think his ears are to big to stand up. and he's not a big yorkie either. he weighs about 5 lbs. we love him anyways...:) you can look at my pictures in my profile if you want....he's a cutie pie with his ears. :) |
we love them no matter what. Monday's ears are floppy and I think they are so cute that way. Friday's ears are smaller and are erect. Each one looks great the way they are. Monday is brownish and Friday is blondish. Monday weighs 6# 2 oz. and Friday weighs 5# 12 oz. They are in my avatar. Each dog is different. I do not know what makes the ears flop or stand up, but I love my babies just as they are. You will also. |
Thor's ears stand up, but I happen to think floppy ears are ADORABLE! |
Too funny! I actually prefer the floppy ears. I'm currently looking for a puppy and hope to find one with ears that stay down. I guess it's all in what you like. :D I know these breeders think I'm nuts asking for a pup with floppys. |

Gunther's ears were down till he was about 9 weeks and the vet had told me the minute he was done with teething they would stick up though some yorkies ears never stay up... one of his went up for a a day then went back down then a couple days later both were sticking up.. so maybe he is just going threw teething still.. Gunther is 3 months old now and both ears have been up.. so i guess he is done with teething... :D though he doesn't act like it.. and i had never shaved the tips of his ears or taped them... i just let them do it on their own... |

I don't know if Sophie's ears are up or down, they are erect but the tips flop over. She has huge ears, I think the tips are just to heavy. I tried shaving and taping and neither worked so I gave up and let her just have her strange little ears (I love her ears). |
