When do yorkies stop growing? The thread about big yorkies got me to thinking. When do they usually stop growing. Baxter turned one this month. He is up to 6 1/2 lbs. I really wouldn't mind if he got a little bigger. He has not grown in a while though. He seems so small. I don't know how folks with the teeny tinies do it. I'm scared to death Baxter is going to fall or jump off of something and get hurt. He acts like his is 60 lbs and it is hard to remember to be careful with him. |
They usually gain weight up til 6 months...but from 6 - 8 months..tend to "fill" out some...in their chests. How quickly they grow is still genetic...some mature more quickly than others. At a year...I'd say Baxter's done growing, mom. When I see someone who specifically is looking for a 2-3 pounder...I wonder if they realize just how small that is. A six pound dog is NOT big. |
Purl has finally crept up closer to 5lbs than 4 1/2- having expected her to be around 6, I can't believe how small she is! 3 pounds would really scare me! She has discovered that standing between people's legs when we are at the dog park is: 1) safe, 2) smart and 3)too CUTE! |
I wondered the same. We expected Suri to get to 4-4 1/2 pounds ... Which is really small to me! But she just turned 6 months old and she is 1 pound 14 ounces! She has grown since we got her but not very much. We got her at 8 weeks old and she was 1 pound 9 ounces? I think it's weird but the vet knew she would be small because she is small structuarally. So I guess we will see what she thinks at her next appointment. :) |

My Pixie had finished growing by about 8 months I think..I thought she would be around 4lbs maybe 4 1/2lbs but she just about 3lbs..she has a very slight frame, small boned..but she's very strong for her size and has a good apetite...she really doesn't know she's very small! |
The average is somewhere between 8-12 months but some stop before and some stop after! I would say at 1 year Franklin has finally stopped growing.. he's just filled out a little! |
My boys both had growth spurts at 15 months old. Fletch went from 6.2lbs to 8.5lbs and Dex went from 4.6lbs to 5.5lbs. Now hes a chubby 6lbs! :) They are both 3 years and 3 months old now. |
:cry:Oh, I am so sad. I just got back from the vet with my yorkie and the vet said she is all done growing. She will be one next month and only 3 lbs. We really thought she would get to 5 pounds. |
Dixie is only 2 pounds and she is a very healthy girl. She eats well, plays well, and knows her boundaries (will NOT jump off of anything, always waits for help on steps, etc.) well. You guys probably think I'm a terrible person for choosing a small puppy (I bought her from a reputable breeder at 16 wks) but I knew what I wanted, and knew I was able to take care of her and meet her needs. :) |
Baxter thinks he's a bird. He will jump and fly off the couch especially if he is going to fetch a ball. And sometimes while I'm walking him on his leash it is like flying a kite. We don't have children but we have a big outside dog and we have nieces and a nephew that are young. The outside dog is better at being careful with Baxter than the kids are. Yesterday Baxter got on top of Lucky (outside dog) and just sat there like he was holding him down. Thankfully Lucky is very good-natured and patient with his little tormentor. |

I honestly can say I wanted a small one this time, my first yorkie was to be 4 lbs and is almost 14 lbs. The one nice thing about her being so small, is she can't jump up on the furniture and probably never will be able too, so, don't have to worry about her jumping off if she can't make it up there |

each baby is different. the growth chart is a good estimate.. but isn't always the case! ;) Avery is full grown at 1 year 8 months old and she weighs about 6.5lbs. and she is ALL HAIR! :D i love her size.. she is my lil scrumptious teddy bear! i would say she was done growing (height/length) at about 10 months or so.. and filled out a little until about a year. :) Gemma is little, at 8 months old she is about 2lbs. she eats a ton & is my lil muncher butt ;) i am curious to see if her and Avery follow the same growth patterns.. ;) from what i have seen.. i would say each yorkie is done growing, for the most part, at about 18months! :) but, it really just depends.. |
I can't remember exactly how much Deegan weighed at 6 months... maybe about 4.5lbs, but I would say that he finally stopped growing around a year and a half at 8lbs. |
Aww. I'm so afraid that my doggie would be a big Moma. I have a three month old three pound baby girl. I dont want her to be over 8 pounds but what is one to do. She was 2lbs when I got her a month ago. Right now she is really active and sounds like a little house running. I can not imagine if she gets too big the neighbors will complain for sure. I just pray... |

When I was looking for Canyon, I had a vision that what I wanted was a 4 1/2 - 5 lb fully grown yorkie. Never even imagining how small that is. Canyon is 8 months and weighs 5 lbs 7 oz at last check and I'm hoping he grows a little bit more as he still looks so tiny to me. |
lol.... I wouldn't lose much sleep about them hurting themselves Of course you have to be careful and watch that they don't get into trouble just like you would with any dog But don't baby them You'd be surprised at what they can do Mine are 3 months and they need help getting on the couch but if they see something down on the floor that looks interesting they go sailing into the air and OFF they GO! They're tuff little guys |
Gypsy, at nine months, is about 3 1/2 lbs. I wanted a small yorkie but not quite that small. Wanted her to have one litter but won't risk it if she does not gain anymore weight. She did, however, FINALLY get what going outside was all about.....lol. She's fearless with everyone, even the horses, they just look at her as if saying "you talking to me"! |
She was 11 weeks when I brought her home...she was born 9/8/08 and i got her on 11/26 |
