Just Joined and want to get involved! Hi my name is Maria and my boyfriend just bought me a 4 month old, 2lb beautiful yorkie for my birthday. I named her Melina after a small town in Sicily, which we will visit one day :) My mother who lives in Florida has 5 yorkies and a Rottweiler, and she has inspired me to get a yorkie of my own. So far Melina is impressively potty trained on the wee wee pad and understands Come, Sit, Up and Down. She is petrified of the leash and barks crazily at her reflection in the mirror! I look forward to making friends on Yorkietalk! |
Welcome to YT :) I can't imagine walking a 2 lb pup on a leash, not that there is anything wrong with it. Hope you are using a harness. Say Hello to Melina from Gus & Squirt. |
Welcome to you both! Wow - 5 yorkies and a rotty! lol That's quite the combination! |
Hi and welcome to YT!! :wavey: |
Hi and welcome to Yorkietalk, your mother has 5 yorkies and she isn't a member? You should have her join up too! A big welcome to you and Melina! Joey use to bark at his reflection in the mirror too, now he won't even look at it, but if he sees his refection in the window at night he barks his head off. |
:welcome4: :yorkietal Welcome Maria and Melina :yorkietal :welcome4: Welcome to YorkieTalk. It is so nice to "meet you". I'm Chattiesmom, aka Cindy and I have a small herd of yorkies - Chattie, Chizzie, Dovie, Scarlett, Peppy, Kooper, Emmitt, Foxie and Klassie, plus Doogan, and the new pups PrissyBelle and Beauregard. The best way to meet people and get involved is to be a frequent poster. I can't wait to see pics of your little Melina. |
Welcome to YT!!! Congrats on your new baby!! |
Hi! :wavey: Welcome! :welcome4: :yorkiesar Gracie Ruth only barks at her reflection in the bedroom mirror...when we are all in bed...sound asleep...at O'dark-thirty in the morning! lol She'll also want to kill the Monster in the backyard that she see's when looking at the backdoor glass. We've learned to keep the curtain closed so that she doesn't see that horrible beastie, with the adorable top knot and precious bow in it's hair. :p |
Hiya..welcome, and i look forward to seeing some pictures of your little one. |
Hi Congratulations :congrats:on your new baby but be careful they say yorkies are like potato chips, you just can't have 1 :D I only wanted one and he is the joy of my life. My kids complained they wanted a puppy. Now we have three. Love them to death. Can't wait to see pictures of your little girl. Love the name, we are from Sicily also. Sending a great big hug from :aimeeyorkCOCO (18mo.) :aimeeyorkPEBBLES (9mo.) :aimeeyorkTRIXIE (4mo.) :ghug: |

Welcome to Yorkie Talk Maria and Melina. Congratulations on the new baby. Your boyfriend has GREAT taste in gifts... You're gonna LOVE this site... :wavey::yorkietal:welcome4:Blessings from Baron and his Mom :woof: |
Hi welcome to YT! I live in Florida like your mom does. Glad its not snowing where I am. Hope your mom decides to join too. Well she is brave to have the rotties too with the yorkie. I know they probably woudn't hurt a soul, but I'm just paranoid with my girls LOL!! :D Maybe try a harness with your baby and just leave it on her for periods at a time and gradually introduce the leash (attached to the harness) easier on their little necks. Personally my girls aren't that familiar with their harnesses as they get toted most everywhere!!! Can you say SPOILED! Can I blame that on my daughters??? Anyways good luck with your new baby. I think you will find this site to be most informative! |

Hello and Welcome. My boyfriend also bought me my yorkie. I have also have a 4 months old girl named Mia. But my girly girl is 4.8 lbs. She was also horrified about the leash. The trainer told me to encorage her with treats and never ever pull her. Mia is doind much better now. I see you live in New York too. Maybe when it gets warmer we can have our girls meet. Good Luck with you new baby. |
Welcome to YT! You're going to love it here. :-) The help and advice is wonderful, and if you ever have any problems (which I hope you don't!), you'll get an overwhelmingly amazing amount of support. YT is a truly unique and caring community, and I'm forever thankful I found it. My mom doesn't have any grandkids yet... except for my new 4.5 month old furkid Nikko! We've done video chat a few times because she lives in Ohio and I've moved out to Nevada. I am hoping that she and my dad will be able to fly out here sometime soon and meet Nikko, who they also affectionately call their "grandoggie." LOL, I'm learning that a puppy is so much work, I can't even imagine having a real kid! Lauren & Nikko |
Hello Maria and Maria's mum! :)Welcome to YT Can't wait to see pictures of all your precious furbabies :Dxxx xxx |
Welcome to all! I got mine used to a leash by using a clothe harness (with a d-ring) They got used to wearing that first and thenk, when they were in the same room as me, I would clip the leash on them. Most of the time they would drag it for awhile and sometimes they would sit and chew on it. I would start at that point to teach them "Come" using the leash. Consistency! Get those pictures posted!!!! |
Welcome to YT to both you and your Mom! This is a great place to be!:animal-pa |
