how to discipline my dog with this
 
Another problem with my Gucci.. whenever he gets out of his crate, he keeps sniffing on the ground(i know that's normal), eating whatever he sees on the ground and chewing whatever he wants to chew.. I know all of these are common questions but what i wanna know is how to solve this or what trick must i do? While he's still young i should start preventing these things to happen..

Hahaha, chewing isn't too much of a problem with my boy yet because we constantly shove "good" chew items in his mouth whenever he tries to go for something that's bad to chew (desk legs, jacket zippers, etc.). Then we happily tell him how good he is for chewing on the "good" chew item we just stuck in his mouth, lol. But he will stick everything else in his mouth if it looks even marginally edible and smallish - twigs, rocks, cigarette buts, anything. We don't have grass, so his pee place is our landscaped gravel yard - if any of the gravel gets up on the smooth sidewalk accidentally, I think it looks like kibble does on the kitchen floor to him and he tries to eat it, or at least chew on it. I also have no idea what to do about this, except to watch him like a hawk and firmly say "drop it" and pry it out of his mouth every time he picks up something unacceptable.

:goodpost: Yeah, that. Gracie Ruth and Yogi both do this. There really isn't much you can do except to watch them very close, take the bad things away and give them something acceptable. I'll see one of them with something and pick up a toy or treat hold it out to them and say, "Trade ya." They'll usually drop what they have to come get the offered item. But then again, since they know they shouldn't have rocks or leaves in their mouths, they'll scamper around just out of reach with mischief twinkling in their eyes. :rolleyes: Because they love it when Momma will play with them. Even if I don't know all the rules of the game. :p

Gus constantly picks things up off the ground. I can't let him loose in my fenced in yard ,because he free feeds on wood chips, twigs, worms, etc.

When I walk him on the leash, I constantly scan ahead, and try to avoid chew objects. If it looks like he's going to grab something, I give a tug on the leash, & say NO! He still manages to pick up stuff.

It's a tough problem to deal with, at least for me.

Dymond does the same thing and it is like she knows that she is not suppose to have it because when I get up to get it she looks like uhoh and tries to run and hide to finish eating it. These little dogs are the greatest and are very intelligent.
